Speakers

SNAP is working to provide a number of speakers, coming form a variety of backgrounds for the general public, universities and special interest groups. Currently the following women have agreed to offer their services as speakers:

Sister Asmaa' El-Sawaf .... who is our Chair Woman; Minneapolis, MN
She is a Pharmacist by profession, and has spoken publicly on a variety of subjects. She has participated in legislative lobbying.

Sister Anisah David .... who is our in-coming Executive Director; Bushnell, SD
She served as a board member for SNAP in 2004 & was an organizing member of SNAP since it's inception in 1999. She is a founder of South Dakota Sister's Network. She is the founder of the interfaith group, Covered Women for God, which was recognized by Harvard University's Pluralist Project for its unique approach to interfaith dialogue. She has been a member of South Dakota Peace & Justice Organization, as well as a member of the Campus Interfaith Council in Brookings, South Dakota. She was recognized for her volunteer work with the South Dakota State University's Festival of Cultures in 2002, in which she has volunteered for almost a decade. She also has done volunteer work in her community helping the disabled.

Sister Clareen Menzies .... who is our out-going Executive Director; St Paul, MN
Sister Clareen will be joining the staff of Islamic Relief in Feb 2005. She was the spear head of the SNAP organization, and founder. She has been directing the work of SNAP (and carrying out much of it) for the first 5 years of the organization's existence. She was the Director of Development & Communications at the Minneapolis based non-rofit organization, The City, Inc. until Feb 2005, prior to accepting the position at Islamic Relief. She has been in the forefront of the development of the Muslim community in the Twin Cities for several decades. Board member of Al-Birr Social & Family Services in Minnesota since 2002. Acting secretary of Minnesota Organization of Muslims (MOM) & board member of Work Place Ministries since 1995, which services to provide ministry to the guests and employees of the restaurants & hotels along the 494 strip in Bloomington & Richfield.

As additional speakers become available we will list them here. Please feel free to contact SNAP to arrange for a speaker to come to your organization.

SNAP staff speak at a variety of venues, including Women's Shelters, Social Service organizations, clubs, non-profit organizations, regional employer training workshops, etc.
