Saber Tooth (Genus Smildon [very old])

The Saber Tooth Tiger is a large cat. It had very long dagger like teeth in its upper jaw. People always pictured the teeth to be dug into its prey's body, but in actual fact, the teeth were too long and its mouth couldn't open that large. It would have to dislocate its jaw just to be able to do what peole picture it to do. It is believed that its teeth were more of a disadvantage than an advantage. It would be hard to kill its prey with those teeth. Image you with teeth that large and you couldn't open your mouth as wide as your teeth are long. How would you be able to eat your meats? You would always have your eat in your way.

The Saber Tooth Tiger was believed to range over Europe, Asia, Africa, North America and South America. It was believed to live around 40 million years ago. Now, definitely extinct.
