(Introduction page)
There are many secrets kept from Knuckles, and now on Mobius one secret
will be uncovered.
As an echidna walks, he sees the Floating Island in the sky. Doubting
that it is real, he glides up to the island and realizes that it is truly
the Floating Island. Suddenly he hears hoofs, and Julie-Su approaches,
riding on a pasha. Julie-Su asks the echidna if he is alright.
The echidna is upset to see someone from the Dark Legion and decides to
make amends by attacking Julie-Su. He tackles Julie-Su, knocking her
to the ground. Julie-Su kicks the echidna away, but he gets up, determined
to win. The echidna says that Julie-Su cannot be trusted after what
"her kind" did to him. He then grabs Julie-Su's neck and starts to
strangle her. Julie-Su tells him to finish her off, and the echidna
hesitates.
Knuckles meditates on top of a tall tower and Archimedes appears.
Archimedes wants to talk to Knuckles about what is going on, but Knuckles
says it will have to wait until later. Knuckles suddenly jumps off the
tower and glides with his eyes closed to the ground. After landing perfectly,
Knuckles holds the stargem (given to Knuckles by Yanar in Knuckles the Echidna #12) in his hand, which allowed
him to see his path. Locke watches Knuckles on a monitor and says
that Knuckles is close to unlocking the stargem's secrets. As Julie-Su
approaches Knuckles with another echidna, the power goes out. Sojourner
and Tobor head towards the med-labs to make sure that the emergency power
is working. While they are there, they check on Grandfather Hawking
and another patient kept in a cryogenic chamber. Tobor had almost
forgotten about the other patient since he did not want to be involved with
outsiders. Sojourner agrees with Tobor, but explains that the Brotherhood
makes all decisions by reaching a consensus.
Find Your Name in Print Page! - 1/2 page
Knuckles is shocked at the new echidna, who repeats that his name is Tobor,
a former guardian of the Floating Island. Knuckles demands to see
proof, and the echidna pulls down his shirt to reveal a collar ring, which
identifies him as a guardian. Tobor begins to tell his story, which
takes place when he was twenty. His father, Hawking, decided that
it was time for Tobor to become a guardian while he returned to the Floating
Island. Tobor is confused and says that the Floating Island was destroyed
by Dingoes (see Knuckles #6). Hawking explains
that it was only devastated and that he must restore the island so that
the citizens of Echidnaopolis can return to their home. Hawking puts
his hat on Tobor's head and says that he is now the man of the house.
As Tobor stands in pride, Hawking says good-bye to Sonja-Ra and then leaves.
Some time later, when the farmlands were replaced by hydroponics gardens,
the Dark Legion appeared led by Moritori Rex. Moritori yells for the
citizens to embrace the technology that they have started to accept.
Knuckles Fan Art - 3/4 page
Tobor stands up and says Moritori cannot place his beliefs upon them.
The two begin to fight and a massive battle begins between the Dark Legion
and the citizens of Echidnaopolis. While fighting, Moritori notices
the collar on Tobor and realizes that Tobor descended from Steppenwolf.
Tobor does not understand Moritori's words and continues to fight.
As their battle continued, Moritori takes out a device and activates it,
allowing for the Dark Legion and himself to cross back into the Floating
Island. Tobor and Moritori reappear among some ruins which begin to
collapse. Both echidnas are trapped, and soon Tobor hears his father's
voice. Tobor watches from the rubble as Hawking picks up the body of
Moritori, thinking that it is Tobor. Tobor begins to struggle, and
a day later, he emerges from the rubble. Instead of returning home,
Tobor wanders Mobius in shame. Now that he is back on the Floating
Island, Tobor wants his family back. Knuckles gives Tobor a hug and
says that he is family.
Locke studies a circuit, which seems to be the cause of the blackout.
Unfortunately, the circuit is an original so if a replacement cannot be
found they will have to create a new one. Meanwhile, Constable Remington
tells Knuckles that they haven't been able to get anything out of their prisoner.
Knuckles walks into a cell and sees Kragok sitting on a cot. Kragok
says he has nothing to say to Knuckles, who simply asks for the cell door
to be closed and locked.
(To be continued.)
