A massively multiplayer space strategy game, Space is a highly addictive and time consuming text-based game. Each player starts with a few ships and a single planet from which to expand in the attempt to rule the galaxy. Each galaxy starts with 599 other players and will end when only 50 are left alive or a majority of the galaxy is rules by the top 40 empires. As each player expands they will encounter each other and will have a choice as to how to proceed. They may either join together and form a four player alliance, remain netural to each other or engage in warfare.
The slogan for the game is "Glory Through Conquest" and this is exactly what is required. There are no peaceful players or defensive strategies, it is expand or die, nothing less. Each player has the ability to create buildings on their planets in order to produce the resources necessary to survive, as well as design ships to conquer their neighbors. From the very start these choices are present to the player and it is only the balance between economy and military infastructure that determines the success of an empire.
The key to the game is the alliance that one joins. Without being part of a four empire alliance it is impossible to survive the galaxy, so joining the most powerful alliance possible is best. |

The gameplay itself is somewhat complex at times, and other times very simple. There is a general strategy for expansion and managing a colony that works regardless of which race a person plays. However there is also a strategy to playing each of the unique races available, each race has its strengths and weaknesses and these must be exploited in order to survive the ruthless combat of a galaxy. Below are some informational pages that will explain different available strategies, as well as provide an insight into how other players view the game, such as Quinon's site.
One thing to note is that since the game itself does not generate much revenue, the administrators must use pop-up adds and banners to pay for the bandwith of the Space site. As a result from time to time spyware may be accidentally installed on the host computer, and can be removed by Ad-Aware, or the pop-up windows may be closed with Analog X or SIP. However to avoid these problems completed it is possible to support the Space game and pay for banner-free hours, where no pop-ups occur. Just be sure not to block the banners themselves, as this will cause problems and a suspension of one's account. |
