| The Chevy II gets a new front suspension and 454 |
| In my opinion the Chevy II is better suited
for a small block, front to rear weight distribution, fit and cost. But
got a big block given to me and never had a big block and always wanted
one, so here I go...
I went with a Heidts weld in cross member and will use Mustang II components This page is a start. More to come later. |

A last look at my trusty 350 |
Ok, Another last look. 2nd thoughts now about doing this. |
|
| Before starting I put car on jack stands, leveled very corner and measured everything everyway i could imagine. Measured front frame rail height before engine removed, after engine removed and checked after every modification | ||
The front end gets cut off |
The left overs |
The frame rails get notched out and a "C" section gets welded in to allow for spring clearance |
The front cross member gets welded in. All the while constantly measuring to make sure the frame rails don't bend up or down or in or out from the heat. |
Added extra gussets on motor mount brackets to handle extra toque from the big block |
The engine gets dry fitted. I slip on the radiator support to make for sure front of frame rails didn't move in or out. |

Checking oil pan to steering rack clearance before welding in motor mount brackets. Put front as low as possible for throttle linkage clearance. I think an HEI would fit w/o mods. |
The fire wall plates. I had cut out from an 1/8" and 1/'16" plate and stack together |
Used 2" schedule 40 pipe. Took it down to the muffler shop and had 70 degree bends made on them. |
Making sure the support tubes have plenty of header clearance |
Fitting and adjusting the support tubes prior to welding |
