CLOSED HEAD INJURIES- are injuries in which the skin is intact and there is no penetration of the dura. Severity of these injuries depends on the speed of the impact.
SKULL FRACTURES- may be in the cranial vault or skull base and be depressed or non depressed. Infants and toddlers who sustain a fracture often develope a subgaleal hemotomo (a blood clot between the scalf and the skull bone). Skull fractures will heal within 3 to 4 months and may not have affected the brain. Observat??? and X-rays may be repeated to insure recovery.
INDENTIONS- are often caused by prolonged labor, forcepts delivery and often returns to normal within a few weeks. Bump and fall are also common for indentions.
