-Over one million children in the United States will sustain mild to severe brain injuries this year.

-Every 11 minutes one child in the United States has a brain injury which will result in permanent disabilities (30,000 children per year).

-Approximately one in ten children will experience traumatic loss of conciousness during childhood.

-Over 500,000 children are hospitalized each year following a brain injury, with 3,000 to 4,000 deaths resulting. An additional 15,000 of these children will require prolonged hospitalization, often with a poor outcome.

-Brain injuries to children usually occur between noon and midnight and boys are twice likely to be injured then girls.

-Falls are the most common cause of brain injuries in children less than ten years of age. Child abuse, unfortunately, is another cause of brain injury. There are many kinds of impairments that may occur as a result of traumatic brain injury (TBI).

-These injuries may impair:
Cognition- concentration, memory, judgement, and mood.
Movement- strength, coordination, and balance.
Sensation- tacile sensation and senses such as vision.
