Kristen French

It has been some time now since Kristen French and others were brutally murdered by Paul Bernardo and his former wife Karla Homolka. A park was dedicated in Kristen's honour in her hometown of St. Catharines in 1993. We were there and we have some pictures of the very moving event and a short story we had written at the time...click here...

Roman Polanski

A contestant from American Idol gets kicked off the show because he has a charge pending or something like that in regard to hitting his sister or girlfriend. Just the fact that a charge was laid (no conviction) has resulted in him being kicked off the show. On the other side of the coin, a director who used to live in the United States, who has been on the run from American authorities for years, is honoured by the Academy of Sciences and Motion Pictures as best director for 2003 for The Pianist.

The man had sex with an underage girl and has been on the lam for over 20 years so he won't have to face charges. Oscar host Steve Martin even made a joke, and said, "There's Roman Polanski, grab him!"

But I guess that is the great United States of America. But without even knowing any details about the alleged assault by the American Idol contestant, he is booted off.

Ernest Hemingway

Ernest Hemingway certainly had his share of problems - but it didn't stop there. One would be safe to assume it's in the genes. He killed himself with a gun, his father killed himself with a gun, and his daugther Margeaux killed herself with pills. That much I knew. I didn't know anything about his other children until I read about his son George, who, at the advanced age of 65, started to go by the name of Gloria. Read more here.

Crash has appeal

Oh how I hated him more than Spyro. I saw my buddy playing these games and I told myself then and there that I would never put myself through that kind of frustration.
But after playing Spryo, and not being in a position to spend $400 on a PS2, and close to $100 on PS2 games, I decided to give him a try.
Yes, frustration abounds, but once Crash has got you in his paws, he won't let you go. Read more here.

Yup, met him, but it was short and sweet

There I was, young, foolish, an idiot really, and Gordon Lightfoot walked into my life. I was living in the middle of nowhere, in Hornepayne, Ontario, Canada, and this Canadian icon was also in this middle of nowhere. I don't really know why he was there, but he was.

And, being 17 and sitting down and having a beer with this guy was one of the highlights of my life - even though it only lasted about an hour. After this, "Gord" even threw in a line about Hornepayne in one of his songs from his Dream Street Rose album. Read more here.
