Here are some interesting facts about teachers.

Fifty percent of America’s beginning schoolteachers leave the classroom within their first seven years of experience and never return; more than two thirds of that percentage do so within the first four years (Merseth, 1992, p. 679).

Job burnout usually occurs around the second and again during the fifth years of employment (How to prevent.. 1991, p. 4). The first attack occurs because pre-teaching ideals fade quickly when faced with the realities of the everyday classroom world. The teacher then learns how to cope with these unexpected difficulties but realizes by the fifth year that coping is not the same thing as teaching. Those who do not leave teaching by this time resign themselves to do the best they can under limiting circumstance.
