1. Discussion – o
Today we are going
to talk about the teachers’ real life. o
Do teachers face
difficulties in their profession? o
What are some of the
difficulties? o
What are the
consequences of these difficulties? Draw the class to the idea of burnout! 2. Present the article – Teacher

How does he/she feel
about him/her self? o
Over head projector:
symptoms of burnout. 3. Group discussion – o
All groups get the
same situation card, which presents a problem. The groups will have to define
the causes for the problem and find a solution to it. o
The situation card: “Natalie Hochman is a 28-year–old woman. She works
as an English teacher in the “Ofakim public junior high”. Over the previous year,
eight students were added to Natalie’s class after the budget was cut down.
As a result, Natalie is now teaching 42 students. In Ofakim, most of the
population is unemployed and are poorly educated. Therefore, most parents are
not involved in their children education process and are more worried about
every day life. There is a high rate of violence in the school and the
faculty has problems of miscommunication, lack of cooperation and lack of
mutual encouragement. Natalie is working five days a week, around six hours a
day. There are a lot of discipline problems in all of Natalie’s classes and
she does not get clear instructions from her principal about how she should
deal with her students.” 4. Whole class discussion – o
Each group presents
the causes to the problem and the other groups comment and give their
opinions. “What do you think?” “Did you think of a different cause?” o
Each group presents
their solution and again the groups comment on it and say their ideas for
solution. 5. Over head projector: primary causes of burnout 6. Over head projector: number one cause of burnout 7. Over head projector: strategies to combat burnout Over head projector: conclusion 8. Closure – o I chose to talk about this subject because I wanted to present an issue that is important and relevant to all of us as teachers and future teachers. I hope that you are coming out of this lesson with some tools to deal with the real life of the teacher.
