How It Works

The scheme is administered personally by the Programme Director who in her regular travels to Nepal sources suitable candidates.

Candidates are carefully screened, vetted and interviewed. References are collected and only those deemed able to use the Sponsorship resources to the best effect are accepted.

Each student's progress is closely monitored, teachers are consulted and frequent contact is encouraged to establish a close relationship.

Money is not the only thing that matters!

The Programme requires the participants to enter into a binding agreement so that on completion of their education/training they will give back to the community.

In the UK, the Director seeks sponsors and/or donations and raises funds through car boot sales, charity fairs and other events. All the money raised goes directly and in its entirety to pay for the education of the sponsored person - all the overheads are personally absorbed by the Director. Close personal contact with the person sponsored is encouraged which usually turns out to be a rewarding experience for both sides.

You can choose to either pay directly by the bank transfer to the institution where your sponsored person studies (e.g. the British Council School in Kathmandu which is very popular with the students in Nepal) or into the SfE account in the HSBC bank in the UK from where the funds are transferred to Nepal. Bank statements are available for verification purposes. You can also help by donating money to the general fund or to partially help a candidate of your choice. In this case, Sponsorship for Excellence will fund any shortfall in the Candidate's school/course fees.
