THE MUSIC PROGRAM AT SHS

Welcome to the
Sequoyah High School Instrumental Music Program and the Sequoyah High School Musical Arts Booster Club (SHSMABC).  The following information is presented to you as a parent and student as an introduction to our program and to aid you in answering  most questions from the beginning of your association with the instrumental program.

The director, staff and students at SHS believe that instrumental music is an integral and rewarding activity for all students who are dedicated to developing musical, social and leadership skills through the participation in the SHS Instrumental Music Program. The Music Program is open and available to all students and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion or financial situations.

Instrumental music is offered for credit on a four year program that also provides many
co-curricular activities such as marching band (which includes drill team and flag corps), concert band, steel drum band, string orchestra and jazz band.  These activities provide opportunities that in many circumstances are not found anywhere within the school such as travel opportunities and musical competitions. They are co-curricular in nature because many times they occur after the school day but are associated with classes offered for school credit.
