Rites of the Order of the Divine FeminineWe use Rites to celebrate the Goddess and Her gifts, to raise Energy, and to maintain Balance between the Feminine and the Masculine. Energy is raised when the Goddess' Love and Power are called forth. Sex Rites are the most powerful methods of calling forth Her Love and Power, and should only be performed by those Members who are comfortable doing so. Since Attraction and Arousal are aspects of the Goddess' Power, they may be used as effective substitutes to Sex Rites. For maximum effectiveness, Rites are most often performed in groups, but can also be performed by solitaries.
Open RitesOur Open Rites are those we may perform in the presence of those who are not Members of the Order. Sign of DevotionOur most common sign of devotion is the joining of our own hands. The right and left hand are placed together, palms touching, symbolizing the joining of the Feminine and Masculine aspects of the Goddess. The thumbs are placed inside the index fingers, so that the hands are almost cupped. The position of the thumbs inside the index fingers symbolize the Feminine. When we wish to invoke the Goddess, we accompany our rites by touching our hands held in this fashion, thumbs first to our foreheads, then thumbs to lips, then tips of index fingers to lips, then thumbs to heart. This symbolizes the Goddess's kiss from our minds to our hearts, and our kiss to her as Divine source of Life, Love, and Power. This gesture, from head to heart, may be repeated three times. This sign of devotion may be accompanied by the practitioner's preferred mantra, for example, "All that is Feminine is Divine," or "The Goddess gives us Life so that we may know Her Love and Her Power." The ChaliceOur open symbol of the Goddess and the Divine Feminine is the Chalice. We form the sign of the Chalice by our own hand, with index and middle finger held upright in the familiar form of a 'V,' palm facing outward. Typically the right hand is used to emphasize the Feminine, but the left hand may be substituted when emphasizing the Masculine aspect of the Goddess. This greeting may be accompanied by the blessing, "May you find the Goddess," or other appropriate greeting or blessing. Words of InvocationI am Woman, sacred Vessel of the Goddess. I am Love, with Beauty of the Feminine. I am Power, with Passion of the Feminine. I am the Goddess incarnate. I am Man, consort of Woman, sacred Vessel of the Goddess. I am steward of Her Power, with Passion of the Masculine. I use Her Power to Her ends. Closed RitesOur most sacred Rites are performed only in the company of Members of the Order. Because the Goddess gives us Life so that we may know Her Love and Her Power, we raise Energy by calling forth Her Love and Her Power in the form of Sex Rites. |
