Elizabeth & Katie's Sim Dog Club
Rules & Guidelines

Conduct, Naming, and Photo Rights

  1. Members may not name their dogs after famous dogs (i.e. Pongo or Lassie). Neither can you use the name of a current well-known show dog or of any RL dog without permission. (Well known would be a dog who has taken BIS at Westminster, the Eukanuba Cup or other large shows or who is currently a major winner at shows. RL would be...RL!) Please be careful about this...also, avoid using RL names in pedigrees also. You may get ideas for names however, from real-life kennels...but don't copy.
  2. You can also have pictures of your dogs, that you have scanned yourself, or picked up on the internet somewhere. Be careful, though, of where you take pictures from. Copyrighted photos can not be used without permission! The club has had some trouble with this when members used photos (that were copyrighted) without asking first. Here is an example of a letter you could write a breeder asking permission to use their photos.

    To Whom it May Concern,

My name is ____. I am (age here) and I am a part of the SDC (Simulated Dog Club). It's URL is:
    http://www.geocities.com/sdconline
The SDC is a fun learning experience/game in which members create an imaginary dog kennel. They can then responsibly breed and show their dogs within the club. I'm writing you to ask permission to use some of your dog's photos for my (breed of kennel here, i.e. Doberman kennel) within the SDC. The photos would be used and kept strictly within the club. If you'd like I can give you credit for the photos as well as a link to your site, names of the real-life dogs, etc. I'd appreciate your getting back to me about this. Thank you.

    (name here)

You can use this example if you want (just add in you name etc.) It will avoid further confusion. Please also be sure you have some sort of clarification on your SDC website about how your kennel is a part of the SDC and is fake etc.

  3. If a new member joins the club and starts showing their dogs and it is discovered that they are using a pic that another member is also using, then the older or previous member has first rights. Same with dogs who are newly registered. If someone registers a new dog and starts showing and discovers their pic is already being used by another member, the member with the older or previous dog has first rights and the new dog's owner is obligated to find a different photo. "Older" does not refer to the dog's age. It refers to how long the dog has been active in the SDC. If anyone has a problem with the photo rights rule, such as you can't decide who had what pic first, then e-mail one of the co-presidents to help settle the matter.
  4. Swearing and vulgar language will not be tolerated for any reason. The only exception to this rule is using the term "bitch" to describe your female dog.
  5. Harassment or rude behavior towards any member will also not be tolerated.
  6. Advertising for other sim games within the SDC is prohibited.
  7. Cheating with points, money, status, quantity of dogs, or any other matter, is highly frowned upon and not what this club is about.
  8. Check out the Rules of Communication page for info regarding our e-mail rules.

Membership
  1. When you first join the SDC, you are allowed five (5) canine creations.
  2. Upon joining the SDC, you automatically receive $40,000.00 of U.S.A. money (sim). If you are not from the U.S.A., please keep in mind that our money system is based on the U.S. currancy.
  3. New members must either board with another member (see 'Establishments' for a list of approved Boarding Kennels) or create their own kennel and submit it to the 'Establishments' page. If a kennel is not listed on the 'Establishments' page it is not valid and does not exist in the SDC. Note: You do not have to have a website for your kennel.
  4. It is not mandatory, but we highly suggest that boarders own a maximum of 20 dogs, and kennel owners a maximum of 40. This suggestion is inforced because if a boarder boards too many dogs it can become stressful on the kennel owner. Kennel owners should stay below or around 40 because after all, it is difficult to care for all those dogs!

Money Matters
  1. All money expenses, purchases and transactions within the SDC are SIM, FAKE. Playing the game does not require any real-life money.
  2. In the SDC money is used only for the buying/selling of dogs, the entering of shows, prize money, stud fees, etc.
  3. Each member is responsible for managing his/her money. An example of how money might be managed: (do this or something similar on an SDC computer file/notebook you use to keep track of your information. We suggest Microsoft Excel for money management. If you don't know much about the program, a regular word processor or notebook works fine.)
    Started with: 40,000
Paid registration fees for 100 - Remaining: 39,900
Sent dogs to boarding kennel for 350 - Remaining: 39,550
Paid show entry fees for 40 - Remaining: 39,510
    etc....
  4. In order to buy something, you must write a check to the seller. SDC checks are formated like so:
    Amount: [amount paid]
    To: [seller's email address]
    From: [your email address]
    Memo: [what you're buying]
Checks formatted any other way or any other type of money transactions are INVALID.

Time & Aging
  1. 1 year of SIM time equals 6 months of real-life. Dogs age 1 yr on Jan 1st and July 1st
  2. Dogs may be speed-aged a maximum of three years, but no more. For example, Kelly can speed-age Honeydew from age one to age four, but no higher.

Breeding
  1. Any member who wishes to breed must submit an Application to the Litter Approval Office (LAO). This is mandatory (i.e. must be done)! Visit the LAO website for complete information.
  2. Dogs (males) cannot be bred until they are at least two years of age.
  3. Bitches (females) cannot be bred until they are at least three years of age.
  4. Bitches must be pregnant with their puppies for a minimum of two weeks. This give the owner enough time to take reservations, etc.
  5. Members are allowed to have one litter per month. We suggest taking reservations before the puppies arrive and having only as many puppies as you decide to give out to the people who have taken reservations. This helps prevent unwanted puppies.
  6. It's also a good idea to register your puppies after they are born and before selling. This of course though, would only be possible if you already knew who the owners were going to be (i.e. If you had taken reservations).

Showing & Racing
  1. Bitches that are pregnant may not perform at all, with the exception of a conformation class, but it is highly discouraged.
  2. Dogs may not race or mush until they are one year old, and must retire by the age of eight. Dogs that compete in any other type of event must retire by the age of ten.
  3. If your dog is the only one in his/her class, NO POINTS ARE RECEIVED.
  4. Please keep in mind that unless stated otherwise, the SDC uses the American Kennel Club standards for conformation shows.
  5. To judge a conformation show with pictures you must be PT certified. This is mandatory.
  6. When judging results for a non-conformation class (such as obedience, agility, etc.) the host may either draw names out of a "hat" or use Random Randomizer.
  7. When the host/ess posts the results to an event, s/he must include all of the entries. For example - not just listing the top three. All placings must be given.

Registration
  1. Registering dogs with the the SKC is mandatory. A dog may not "exist" without first being registered.
  2. Please keep track of your registration numbers, follow the regulations of the registering process with the SKC and be patient with the registrar - it's not an easy task!
  3. It is suggested that you put the breeder's kennel's name on the dog's name (i.e., Rosewood's Sunny Girl) to prevent double-name-registering. If the breeder doesn't own a kennel, using his or her name will work well (i.e., Amy's Sunny Girl). Remember, once you register a dog the name is written in stone and you may not add double kennel prefixes onto it!
  4. Also, remember that once a dog is registered with the SKC it cannot "disappear". (The only way for dogs to leave the club is for them to be exported.) If the owner quits and does not give/sell the dog to another member, it will be put up for adoption via the SKC.
