Accidents
Managers need to be diligent in recording any type of accident or injury.
Each agency will have a reporting procedure for these occurrences. It is essential that managers record all data at the time of the incident.
Let's use this as an example: An employee or customer has fallen on the floor.
The recorded data would be:
floor conditions-
wet or dry?;
were there any trip hazards or were the floors clear?;
Then you would:
record the names of all persons present and take statements from each one;
if a person states they did not witness anything, ask them to sign a statement with that information;
always take a detailed statement from the injured party.
There is a statute of limitations for filing lawsuits. Many times a person who stated they had no injuries at the time of the incident will file a lawsuit when the time limits are approaching.
If the manager failed to adequately document at the time of the occurrence, the agency may be left defenseless.
