This flower bed is really starting to take off now. There's a combination of marigolds, zinnia, basil, moss rose and sunflowers. The basil really doing good, I had to dig up and move some of the zinnias because the basil was crowding them out. The sunflower that's blooming came up on its own there's three that I planted that I'm looking forward to.
My tomatos are doing good, in fact I just noticed yesterday that there's actually some tomatos on my tomato plants
This is the area I planted in early spring and so far suprisingly nothing much as died. One dusty miller at the far end of the fence didn't make it, but just about everything else is hanging in there. When I bought these plants I thought this area would get 3 to 5 hours of sun a day but I think it's getting quiet a bit less than that. It's going to be interesting to see how some of the more sun loving plants adjust, although it gets so hot here that I think lot of plants actually do better with more shade than whats normally recommended.
I'm not exactly sure what this plant is. It was part of a wildflower mix that someone gave me. What ever it is I sure do like it.
These were my last two flower bed to get planted. I had to actually break down and go to the nursery and buy some plants instead of growing them from seed. The only thing not bought at the nursery are some marigolds that came up on there own. The round bed on the left is where I cramed about 40 marigolds last year. This year I put some mexican heather, vinca and some other plant that I can quiet remember the name of right now and of course the marigolds that came up on thier own. Under the little crepe myrtle tree on the right is some dusty miller, vinca and some petunias. For those of you who have keeping up with the updates this is where the tulips and daffodils were earlier this spring.
These are some plants that I planted late last winter in the shade garden on the side of our house. On the left are some ferns and a possumpaw holley. There's also a cleyra shurb, a slug eaten hosta, asian jasimine and some lily turf in the back ground, but these plants were planted the previous year. On the right is some pacasandra and some more lily turf. I bought the pacasandra without knowing that is needed acid soil. After I realized that I had planted the pacasandra in a location not well suited for them I dug them up, mixed in a bunch of peat moss in the soil and replanted them and they're doing much better now.
Sorry, this isn't a very good picture but I want to show the phlox I planted in the front yard out by the crepe myrle in the picture below. This is the third year I've grown phlox with so-so results. They seem to start off good and have pretty flowers, but never really thrive.
Home sweet home, the crepe myrtle's looking good, hopefully the roses in front of the house will bloom some more this summer.
A flower from the rose of sharon bush in the front yard. If you look close you'll see a bee behind one of the pedels.
