Gardening in Wichita Falls in the summer can be an exercise in frustration.  It's been well over a 100 every day for the last month and we've only had about 1/8 of an inch of rain since memorial day.  So given the circumstances most of my plants are doing relatively good, although my water bill was nearly $90 last month.  I haven't planted any thing new since the last update, at this point the goal is to just try and keep things alive til the temperatures start to come down a little in september.
The nice thing about the summers here is you don't have to mow very much, mostly I just have to string trim around the flower beds about every other week.
This flower bed has been the most consistant source of joy for me the summer.  For the most part everything is doing real good.  The two pewny sunflowers in the picture on the right have been a little disappointing though.
I planted these flowers much to late, it was already starting to average near 100 degrees by the time I got these planted.  But despite this they seem to have adjusted pretty good.  It seems like petunias and vincas are two of the most heat resistant annuals around.  I've had good luck with these plants the last couple of years as well.
Everything is fairing good here as well.  There are a couple of sunflowers coming up on their own, the birds must have dropped the seeds over here.  I'm hoping that this area will fill in a bit more after the temperatures come down a little.
The tomatos seem to be making progress slowly but surely.  There are quite a few green tomatos out there and they seem to be slowly turning red.  I've been water the tomatos and the peppers at least every other day.
This is the area along the east fense in the back yard that I planted last spring.  I was afraid that this area wasn't going to get enough sun, but I think the shade had been protecting the plants more than it's been hurting them.
The shade garden on the side of the house is holding up to the heat pretty well.
The front yard has been hit the hardest by the heat.  All the phlox under the crepe myrtle died and the zinnias and marigold are just holding on.  The flowers in front of the house are looking alittle ragged also.
