The weather here as improved over the last two weeks. The high has been averaging between 97 to 101 and we've actually had over an inch of rain during the last week. Alot of the plants that had been suffering from the heat are starting to perk up alittle bit. I havn't planted anything new for a couple of months now, but here are some pictures from around the yard.
This flower bed has consistently bloomed and generally look real good all summer.
The roses have been losing leaves and not looking too good because of the heat and lack of rain, although they've had periodic flowers all summer. The petunias and vinca under the crepe myrtle have hung in there fairly well. The sunflowers which have sprung up in there look alittle out of place, but I don't really mind. The round flower bed in front of the roses is starting to fill in nicely now that the heat has let up some. Unfortunatly I could get any decent picture of that bed.
The vegatables haven't done too well at all. The tomatos (not pictured) look healthy, but no tomatos. The peppers have just started to produce some little peppers. The herb garden is actually doing quiet well and the container garden is mostly doing ok, although the strawberry plant up and died on me. I also included a picture of one of the gazinias I planted around the pepper plants just because I like I thought it looked nice.
This is the area along our east fense that I planted last spring. I took several pictures but this is the only one that came out. Most of the plants in this bed are doing good or at least surviving. The above picture has a varigated privet, two lambs ears and a couple of sedums. There were three lambs ears but one died, strangely the entire plant disappeared. About a month ago the third lamb ear nearly died, there was only one section of it still hanging on. Then one day I went out there and the mulch around it was disturbed and the plant was gone, strange huh!
This is the shade garden on the side of our house. There for a while this large black dog decided that this was a nice area to spend a hot summer afternoon digging holes to sleep in. I finally bought some cat and dog repellent from lowe's and he hasn't been back. I kinda feel bad for the dog, but darn it, he can find some other shady spot to hang out in and he was causing serious damage to my plants. I'm hopeful that most if not all the effected plants will pull through.
These are the zinninas and four o'oclocks that are planted in front of the rose of sharon in front of our house. There's also a marigold in there but the zinnias have just about completely over taken it.
