It seems like most of my marigolds didn't really to all that great this summer, but now that the temperatures have cooled off they're really comming back
The Privets I planted along this fence have really grown nicely all summer. I've had kinda mixed results with the other plants although overall I'm pleased with this area.
The bushy thing in the middle are the cherry tomatos I planted last spring. So far lots of tomatos, none of which have gotten bigger than a grape or that could quailify as food. I think I'm not going to grow tomatos next year, I just don't need this aggravation in my life.
This little flower bed is finally filling in nicely. Several plants either died or weren't growing the way I had intended but now that it has cooled off a bit everything is growing and filling in the holes from the plants that didn't survive the summer.
I planted vinca, dusty miller and petunias under this crepe myrtle tree. The vincas are doing ok but not too many flowers though. This was my first time growing dusty miller and I have to say I've been a little disappointed, they're still alive but they haven't done much. The good old reliable petunias have done quiet well, although I should have planted more of them.
The Rose of Sharron in the picture on the left are just amazing. They been covered with flowers since early june, even through the months of 100+ degree days with no rain. The roses on the right didn't do so well in the summer heat but they have come back nicely, they should continue to bloom into early November, maybe even longer.
This is the only actually new thing to report. I decided to take out the annuals that were in there and replace them with something more low maintaince. It seems like most plants don't really do very well here, I think there may be too much reflected heat from the street. From my experience it seems like lily turf will grow about anywhere so I thought I'd give it try.
