Episode Seven

Previously, on Survivor Canada

Both tribes are out of food when the 3 Cree and 8 Paleo merge into the Keyano tribe.  They share a feast and work together to build a new camp, but old loyalties are strong as Paleo Pride vow to eliminate the remaining Cree... beginning with Miriam.  Miriam foils their plans by winning immunity; Emmanuel collapses and is disqualified; and rumours spread of Michelle betraying Paleo Pride.  But at Tribal Council it is Staton who becomes the first jury member with 8 votes, Michelle receiving 2 and Shane 1.

KEYANO, NIGHT 17

It's a slow hike back to camp after Keyano's first tribal council.  Most of the tribe have never had to hike through the forest at night, by torchlight, and aren't entirely familiar with the trails surrounding their new campsite.

Towards the back of the single file of hikers, Diana tells Shane how she was a little overwhelmed when Shane, Tabatha, then Miriam were all telling her about Michelle.  "I spoke with Rick; sounds like he's not happy with the Michelle incident either ... I believe he's ready to kick her hiney out."

Shane agrees with that assessment.  Diana counts four votes against Michelle.  Shane adds Miriam as a fifth to make majority, but Diana doesn't understand why Miriam didn't take advantage and go along with Michelle, except perhaps to "sow discontent" in an otherwise strong tribe.  They agree to get Michelle, then the last two from Cree:  Miriam and Janei.

Arriving in camp, Diana assists Miriam with the fire.  It's nice to have a fire going at night; Paleo didn't have enough dry wood to keep one going all the time.  They talk about their homes and family.  Eventually, Diana apologizes for Staton, saying that she "didn't have a choice."  Miriam understands about loyalties.

As the others are going to sleep, Rick tells Shane and Diana:  "To get Michelle out we need to continue to publicly proclaim that Cree goes first.  Even tell Michelle that it's Janei going to make her think we bought into the Miriam story."  Shane is really upset about Michelle; he wanted Paleo to stick together.  Rick agrees.  "I'm sick of people like Michelle whose only purpose is to betray as many people as she can."

KEYANO, DAY 18

A bleak and chilly day arrives.  Fortunately, the overcast sky does not bearing rain for the Survivors.  They continue the work of building their shelter before it changes its mind.

Janei goes collecting wood with Shane, and makes a plea.  "I know that Miriam and I are in trouble and to be honest... Miriam is doing a lot of dirty work to try and get me voted off.  Shane, I swear to you I am the most loyal person ever and I would be grateful if I could join up with you for awhile... then you can ditch me anytime... I just enjoy playing."

Shane says he hasn't heard Miriam campaigning against Janei.  "I will tell you this:  neither one of you needs to worry yet."

Janei is surprised, and thanks Shane.  "You have no idea how much that means."  She adds, "Just tell me a name and I'll vote for them."

Shane whispers to her:  "Michelle."

Bringing wood to the fire, Janei checks-in with Miriam.  Janei says it was a shame they lost Staton, but is glad that he made the jury.  Janei also feels bad for voting Shane, and for lying to him about it.  Now that she's gotten to know him, Janei and Shane get along great.  For the next vote, she says, "I hear it's Michelle... Do we have any people on our side?"

Miriam doesn't feel it's a sure-thing yet, but Shane, Tabatha, Diana, Rick and herself seem to be on board.  Miriam warns, "Keep in mind that there was a pact prior to the merge that Cree must be gone before they vote off any Paleo... even Emmanuel.  So be prepared that one of us will go."

Miriam explains to Janei the problem with Michelle.  "She offered me an alliance without the consent of the other people in the alliance, just to get my vote.  I was upset about it at first, then I talked to her and she is okay.  Shane was the first one to see it as a betrayal on Michelle's part."

Janei thinks it sounds fair enough.  "So we have Michelle thinking that she is in no danger, that you or me will go next?"  Janei hopes that Michelle doesn't win immunity, fearing that she's next.

Miriam nods.  "These are all good people, I don't want to see any of them gone.  And there are no guarantees.  Paleo is tight and you can never tell the actual vote."

Janei brings up the Karen/Rob problem, which is still dogging her.  Miriam admits that she tried to get Paleo to consider Janei when Staton was on the chopping block.  "Staton stood by me when Rob put up the poll, and you put that post up.  Staton and Aiden were the only ones."  Miriam isn't still mad, but she had to try to help Staton.

Janei is upset that Miriam drug up the old dirty laundry from Cree.  "Rob is history and if I was anything like him then I would have quit like Karen.  I'm a little hurt that you put me on the chopping block.  I don't understand that you are still using that reason against me."

Miriam knew that it had to be a Cree going, and it was between Janei and Staton.  She only mentioned the Rob/Karen thing because Shane asked her for a reason.  And in the end Miriam accepted Staton's loss and voted for Michelle.

Janei drops the subject.  "We have to make do with what we have, and we can stick together if need be."

Miriam would like that, but feels in all honesty that they are doomed.  "Shane and the others are awesome people.  If they're this great to a different tribe member, then how great are they to each other?  Loyalty comes into play and they are loyal."

Rick walks by, and Miriam lets Janei excuse herself to talk to the Paleo power-player.

Janei tells Rick how "thrilled" she is to still be in the game.  She knew that either she or Staton would be leaving at the last Tribal Council, and figured it would be her.  Janei asks Rick if the best thing for her to do is vote for Michelle.  "Of course I'm in, obviously I am outnumbered."

Rick applauds her for getting straight to the point.  "Paleo planned on putting out all Cree before any Paleos.  And now Michelle has wasted no time or effort in jumping ship and betraying us all as soon as she was able.  So, yes, it is looking like Paleo has to do a little house-cleaning at the moment."

Janei promises to keep her lips sealed about it, and thanks Rick for trusting her with the information.

Rick makes a confessional, sorting out his alliances in his head.  There is the alliance of Shane, Tabatha, Michelle and himself, but he says Michelle has committed "Survivor Suicide" and has to go very soon.  He also has a secret final-two alliance with Diana.  "That is my 'sacred alliance'."  He plans to integrate the two alliances without revealing too much about Diana.  Rick thinks, at this point, he has a good chance with the jury if he goes against Shane, which he'd like to do.  But at the moment he's tied down to his alliance with Diana, which is "stupid" as she would beat him in a jury vote.

Keyano's efforts at improving their rough shelter proceed haphazardly.  Staton had put together Cree's shelter, and without his vision and organization the build is slow and labourious, and mistakes outnumber wise decisions.  Even worse, at this point everyone is paranoid about rocking the boat and criticising what their tribemates have done.

Taking a break from the frustrating build, Rick discusses the Michelle situation with Diana.  They consider the bigger picture, and who Michelle might potentially have on her side.  Diana suspects Jon, who never talks about anything of substance yet is a whiz at challenges.  Kelley is a question mark, as is Janei.  But even if those three are with Michelle, there are five solid against Michelle which has her outnumbered.

"I've been thinking of what I'll say with my vote," Rick says.  "It does piss me off though that she has done this... I really wanted Cree to go first.  As long as Miriam and Janei remain in the game, they have a chance of winning, and either one of them will win the Jury vote — the underdog made it, against all odds."

Diana agrees.  "I know what you mean, that's always predictable as well."

KEYANO, DAY 19

Shane is speaking with Diana, and wondering who it was that voted for him.  It was an interesting comment.  Paleo all voted Staton, and Miriam told him that she and Staton voted Michelle, so that leaves Janei.

"But why 'personal reasons'?" Diana asks.

"Don't know — then again, it could be Kelley," he says, stating that they had a history.  "I'm guessing it's one of the two."

Diana agrees that it could be Kelley, because she hasn't been as involved as everybody, and doesn't seem to have a strategy.  "Not to worry; I think between you, me, Rick and Tab we have a strong group."

Michelle goes on a hike with Diana to bring back water.  She wonders about Staton's final words; he came second in the challenge, of course he was a threat.  Diana thinks he's a little bitter.  He'd have only been around one more week if Miriam hadn't won immunity.

Michelle comments on the "seriously awesome chicks" in the game.  "Imagine how great we would have done if the tribes had been girls against boys."  In fact, although there were more guys in the game at the beginning, eliminations have shifted the balance and there have been a majority of women ever since the merge.

"It would have been totally one-sided, chicks winning," Diana agrees.  "The guys are great but seems to me the women are more dynamic."

Michelle goes so far to say, "I'd like to see a girl win this game.  It if was between a chick and a dude, I'd probably vote for the chick."

They talk about matriarchy, patriarchy and religions for a while.  Then, citing the vote reasons against her, Michelle asks Diana how she can be a better team player.  Diana says that she isn't sure what that means.  "Communicating with your tribemates and participating in challenges constitutes a team player, that would be you in both instances."

Michelle thought so, and doesn't know where that comment came from, but would like to do better and change that person's opinion about her.  Michelle refuses to believe it was Miriam, but maybe Janei and Staton both voted for her.  But the voting reason, and the one against Shane, suggests it was a Paleo player.  "I don't like that," Michelle tells Diana.  "We agreed to stick together until all the Cree are gone and that's what I'm sticking with."  Michelle says she's worried that someone is working against the rest of the tribe.  They promise to let each other know if they find anything out.  "I know I don't want to ever vote for you," Michelle says to Diana, "unless it's from the jury."

Returning to camp, the two women find treemail.  Michelle reads it to Keyano:

"In the Game Survivor,
There's a lot of deceiving.
If you are the best at it,
For joy you'll be leaping.
This interesting little task,
Could keep you alive
Or send you packing
To the jury side..."

IMMUNITY CHALLENGE (PART ONE), DAY 19

In a bit of a surprise, Zoe arrives at Keyano's camp for the challenge.  She takes a long look at their shelter, but says nothing and keeps her face carefully neutral.  When everyone has gathered, she welcomes them to Keyano's second Immunity Challenge.

No, it isn't a reward challenge, but the first part of an immunity challenge which will conclude the following day.  This immunity challenge requires creativity and has an element of deception, and so there will be a day's intermission.

Survivors are given notepads and must each write a short story, only one to two paragraphs.  It can be fiction or non-fiction — true or false — and the entry must state which is the case.

They are to submit their stories in the treemail box by the end of the day.  Zoe tells them that's all for now, and lets them go with their assignment.  Further instructions will come tomorrow.

Over the day,
Shane writes a steamy account of sexual experimentation
Janei writes a farcical horror about a "Polka-geist"
Miriam tells an inspirational tale about the importance of faith
Tabatha writes a story of teenage disappointment
Michelle writes about a close call on a road trip
Rick tells an action-packed Kuwait war story
Jon writes a grim story of anonymous compassion
and Diana tells a story about a woman haunted by death.

KEYANO, DAY 19

Michelle makes a camera confessional before she turns in for the night.

"I'm pleased with the merge.  The plan for Paleo is to vote out the rest of Cree one by one.  A few people probably perceive me as a threat ... so I'll definitely keep my good ideas to myself from here on in.  My true alliance consists of myself, Shane, Tabatha and Rick; we also have Miriam voting with us but that will probably only be for one more week."

"I'm kind of doubting that I'll make it to the final two, but maybe at least into the final four with my alliance.  I'm not going to turn my back on my alliance.  I've thought about it and how when the numbers work out, I can stage a coup on the group, but ... I've had a really good time with my alliance and I just don't think it's the way I want to play the game."

"We'll see how it all turns out!"

KEYNAO, DAY 20

Michelle delicately asks Miriam if she knows who voted for her and how she can be a better team player.  Miriam is cautious, but Michelle honestly wants her advice so she can play better.

Miriam says that Michelle made promises she couldn't keep.  "You offered me an alliance without talking to the others just to get me to vote Staton out when he was going anyway.  How am I supposed to trust you now?"  Miriam adds that she, herself, "sucks" at the game because she won't just lie.

Michelle tells Miriam that that's exactly why — Michelle knew Miriam was on the chopping block and wanted to help her stay in the game as long as possible.  "Maybe it isn't worth much, but I think you're a good player."  Michelle says that she raised the idea with Miriam first, because they were having a good time talking, but couldn't immediately get a meeting with all of her allies.  "I wanted to see if I could put something together that would benefit us both."

Miriam knows now that the truth is Paleo will vote off all Cree before voting for anyone else.  "There is no way that I will be allowed into an alliance... you all agreed."  Michelle admits to that, but she was buying time for Miriam to talk to the others.  Miriam knows Michelle did what she thought was best.  "I would much rather you have just been honest and told me."

Michelle insists that Janei could be voted out, that she's voting for Janei.  Miriam shrugs.  "I've fussed enough and I'm sorry, honest.  I was more mad at myself than at you.  If I lose the challenge, I'm fair game and I won't hold you to anything."

Michelle appreciates that, but it's more important for her that Miriam knows her intentions were good and honest.  And if Miriam can win immunity again, she could be around a lot longer than anyone imagined.  "I still stand by my decision to try to help you in the game, just like my other friends here.  If I don't win, I want one of my buds to win!"

Miriam apologizes for voting Michelle; she was hurt at the time.  Michelle understands, saying, "I deserved it."  They both hope they can stick around, but at least they made the jury and will have a vote on who wins.

Diana touches base with Jon.  He's feeling tired and lazy and lost about the game.  Diana reassures him, but doesn't want to tip him with anything that might get back to Michelle.

Rick has another strategy session with Diana.  She mentions how Michelle was fishing about the "team player" comment — and how Diana acted befuddled.  Rick laughs.  It was pretty obvious the three votes that weren't for Staton were from the three former Cree tribemembers.  Diana has suspicions about Tab and Shane, who were upset with Michelle.

Rick tells Diana that he talked to Shane about "bringing you in" now that Michelle is on the outs.  Diana mentions that she has also had an alliance with Shane, which surprises Rick.  "It's looking like Shane is a little player."

Rick says that Janei is on board to get Michelle out.  "It saves her skin one more round."  Diana doubts that Michelle suspects it.  Rick isn't so sure.  He has heard some rumours, through Shane, that Miriam admitted everything to Michelle, which gives Michelle a chance to fight back.  Rick feels that Miriam is all over the place, which is "more than enough reason to make sure she goes next... she is unpredictable."

Diana agrees:  "Michelle, Miriam, Janei — we cannot deviate."  Rick warns that they are bordering on allowing Janei or Miriam to win the game.

Diana has her own warning:  that Shane might be probing the relationship between the two of them.  "He was acting like 'no one really talks to Rick and I don't know how he feels about things,' etc., etc."

"I told him last night that he was my 'closest ally' in this game now," Rick says, laughing.  For both their sakes, Diana hopes that Shane bought it.

IMMUNITY CHALLENGE (PART TWO), DAY 20

Zoe summons the Survivors to a challenge field.  They are directed to nine tables which are arranged in a circle, facing each other.

"For Part One of this challenge, I asked you all to write me a short story.  For Part Two, you are to read these anonymous stories and mark whether each is true or false.  The Survivor with the most correct wins this Immunity Challenge."

It takes a few moments for the Survivors to read the stories.  They look up and across at each other, trying to guess which story is whose, and whether the person was deceptive or truthful.  When they are done, Zoe collects their entries and quickly tallies them up.

"I have to say that I loved reading your stories.  The story that fooled you the most was Rick's — what a brave man we have among us!  I'm so glad you made it through all that, Rick."

"This challenge ended up being a tie between Rick and Michelle; each had six correct answers.  Based on the tie breaker question, Rick, you are the winner of Keyano's second Immunity Challenge!"

"The rest of you can pack your bags for Tribal Council.  See you there."

RICK WINS IMMUNITY!

KEYANO, DAY 20

Kelley, Miriam and Diana congratulate Rick on his immunity win.  "Goodness that was some story!" Diana exclaims.  "Glad you're here to tell us about it.  And Janei, that was the best laugh I had in a looooong time, thanks."

Miriam gets a hold of Diana on their hike back to camp, saying that she understands if it's her turn to go.  "I am having a great time and it's okay."  Diana is happy to say that she's not voting Miriam that day.

As soon as she can, Diana gets alone with Rick.  "You won immunity, fantastic!  Michelle came close!"  Since he won the tie-breaker, they can stick to plan and vote out Michelle.  Diana is a tiny bit worried that she might be out of the loop, since Michelle did not count her among the final four.  But Rick reassures Diana that she's safe.

Diana tells Shane that she's voting for Michelle.  "I figured since we all discussed this last week, that was still the plan."  Shane says that they'll see the damage when the votes are tallied.  Shane figures that Janei was the one who voted for him last time, but that it didn't bother him.

Kelley has been a bit under-the-weather; now that she's better, she's stressed and feeling out-of-touch with everyone.  "Do you know who the group is voting for?" she asks Diana, adding, "Assuming it's not me with all these issues I've been having."  Diana tells Kelley that she's voting for Michelle for trying to jump ship with the Cree people.  Kelley is surprised it happened so fast.  She feels like she has no strategy; aside from Dan, she says that Diana is the only person she's ever talked deals with.

"I guess I'll vote for Janei if there's no set way to go this time," Kelley says.  "People seemed to be targeting Miriam before she won immunity last time, so they might vote her again.  I'm glad to know that about Michelle though.  I never would have guessed."

Janei herself has been hoping to talk with Michelle and spill everything Rick said about voting Michelle out, thinking that she could win Michelle's loyalty and that a last-minute turnaround would be her best chance to advance.  "Hopefully she has close ties and we can create a new bond and get rid of the others."  However, the rest of Paleo Pride have been watching so closely that Janei hasn't risked talking to Michelle yet.  Her last chance is on the hike to Tribal Council.

TRIBAL COUNCIL, DAY 20

"It seems like this tribe has come together." Zoe tells them.  "What lies ahead for the remaining Survivors... only time will tell where the chips will fall."

"Let's see how this tribal council goes..."

MICHELLE
My vote is for Michelle, I'm sorry girl but you trie to betray paleo's pride so gotta get you before you get us.
(Shane)

MICHELLE
Well, this wasn't exactly in my plans, but a member of Paleo wasted no time or effort in betraying her tribe. She threw "Paleo Pride" out the window the moment we merged and didn't look back. Furthermore, she just assumed that the rest of us would jump on the bandwagon and follow her lead. In the immortal words of Jim Carrey's Grinch "Wrongo!"
My vote this Tribal Council is cast for Michelle. She joined in the pact that Paleo made, and then trampled all over her own word and decency. She stabbed each and every member of this tribe in the back, and thoroughly insulted the members of Cree by giving them false hopes that she never intended to honor. Honor has no place in any mention of her name. However, to state her lack of it, it must be said.
Again, I vote for Michelle.
(Rick)

MICHELLE
I am voting for Michelle this week. I am voting for her because she has been betraying the Paleo tribe and I want to get her before she gets us.
(Tabatha)

MICHELLE
well...this game changes very fast. My vote is for Michelle. You are a SUPER person, and I just hate to, but I made an agreement and I have to keep my word. It has been a true pleasure getting to know you and I wih you the best of luck!
(Miriam)

MICHELLE
My vote is for Michelle because I have heard things lately that make me doubt that her loyalty lies where she promised it. It is nothing personal against her, I think she is a very nice girl, but I feel like this is the best to keep a unified tribe,
(Kelley)

MICHELLE
I hate to do this but you were the cause and this is the effect
(Jon)

MICHELLE
My vote is for Michelle. You were too quick to jump ship that is what not being a team player means to me.  "Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth."  Hope that one's on the wall, see you on the other side
(Diana)

MICHELLE*
This vote goes to Michelle, going with the flow.
(Janei)

Kelley also used her REWARD to cancel out Janie's vote this week

One vote did not come in. (Michelle absent)

Michelle, the tribe has spoken.  You have been eliminated from Survivor Canada 3 and now own the second jury seat.  Thank You for playing.  Don't go far as the final TC isn't that far away.
