| Mythic History of the Bhuwani Faith: 1 | ||||||||||||
| Creation: How was the Universe Created? | ||||||||||||
| The concept of the Creation of the Universe is somewhat beyond the scope of the Bhuwani religion. The universe simply is what it is. The focus of the religion is two-fold: living life as best as one can live, and moving on to the afterlife upon death. Anything else is of little concern to the followers of Bhuwani. | ||||||||||||
| What is the shape of the world and the universe? | ||||||||||||
| Bhuwanis (as followers of the religion are called) are very interested in astronomy and astrology and know of the existence of all seven planets, also that Sudor revolves the Daystar. They are also aware of both moons (the Nightorb and the Chrysaar) and of many of the astronomical bodies. | ||||||||||||
| Characteristics of the Gods: Are they immortal or indestructible? What is the pantheon? | ||||||||||||
| There are several different sects of Bhuwani, but the main differences can be explained by two different sects. Each sect has its own view on the gods of the faith. Khis ("Disciples"): This sect is monotheistic and believes that all of the spirits and gods worshipped by the Kami-do sect are in reality just manifestations of the "True Name" (the monotheistic god of the Khis). The True Name is immortal and indestrucible and has always existed. The Khis believe that they never see the True Name directly but are constantly witnessing his works in everyday life. Kami-do ("Way of the Gods"): This particular sect believes that everything is inhabited by a spirit or god ("Kami"). Rivers, trees, hills, mountains, ancestors, and even living people house spirits within. Certain areas or people carry stronger spirits and can accomplish magical feats. These spirits are neither immortal nor indestructible; if a river is damned, a hill leveled, or a tree felled, its spirit will die. Certain areas or beings are near-impossible to destroy (for example, a huge mountain) and therefore its spirit will also be nearly impervious to harm. The Kami-dan (followers of the Kami-do sect) believe that they encounter these spirits on a regular basis, and that they can interact with the spirits to present requests or offerings. |
||||||||||||
| How much direct influence do they have? | ||||||||||||
| This question depends very much on the point-of-view of the particular sect of Bhuwani involved. In general, however, most of the followers of the faith, no matter which sect they belong to, believe strongly that the god or gods of the faith have a very direct and profound influence on daily life. In reverence to the god(s), the faithful pray twice a day (morning and evening). | ||||||||||||
| How much interest do they have in the world? | ||||||||||||
| The Khis believe that the True Name is interested in the world in terms of helping to make people better. He shows a path and requires the faithful to follow his example and lead exemplary lives and also prepare for the afterlife. The Khi sect is also very concerned with the "evolution" of being, helping the spirit within to achieve a state of perfect meditation which will slow down aging, open the mind to new magicks, and strengthen the body. The Kami-do sect believes that the Kami are interested in the world from the standpoint of maintaining the natural beauty of the world. Kami-dan worship the Kami out of reverence for the great spirits of nature, and to help leave the world a better place than they found it. This entails a very ecologically-conscience existence and also a desire to destroy the unnatural (undead and demons, for example). |
||||||||||||
| Does anything inhibit them? | ||||||||||||
| As mentioned previously, the spirits (Kami) of certain natural areas are considered to be susceptible to the meddling of mortal creatures. | ||||||||||||
| Humans, Humanoids, Animals and Plants: How were they all created? | ||||||||||||
| Again, this is not part of the scope of the religion. However, Imperial Bhuwani (a form of the religion which is funded and promoted by the Empire of the Golden Sun and the Silvery Moon) dictates that the Emperors of the nation have directly descended from the Sun Goddess, and therefore they sit on the powerful Sun Throne. The Goshun (the highest ranking general in the Empire) is said to descend directly from the Moon Goddess and sits on the Moon Throne. | ||||||||||||
| Fall from Grace: Did the sentient races fall from grace? If so, how? | ||||||||||||
| There are no legends of this sort in the Bhuwani tradition. | ||||||||||||
