Buy Local, Eat Healthy Campaigns:

From Andrew Bartlett:

Just some food for thought for discussion online and/or at an upcoming platform meeting:

My guess is that CFA is primarily thinking of farmers initiative.  As
SAL/CFA considers this issue, gives input to the wider CFA, and considers such an initiative in our platform, I wanted to toss in something that just went through my head.

I think there will be increased excitement generated and important potential allies for the initiative if we/CFA consider pulling in the health aspects, and in particular the greater incidence of diet-related  illnesses among (some) low-income populations.  (Of course, the entire country is suffering from our typical diets.)

Part of the outreach for a Buy Local, Eat Healthy campaign could be:

* a series of community conversations on health diet and lifestyle;

 * developing a working coalition of Louisville's health and nutrition providers, food producers and retailers, and low income
communities/groups;

 * adapting diet-related health messages and materials to different  cultural and ethnic characteristics;

* community events and extensive marketing/media.

 Funding, and the collaborations that would help access funding, of course, will be critical.
