SAL Organization

Sustainable Agriculture Louisville is a networking organization which is only beginning to develop a communications strategy and practice beyond meetings and email listservs.

SAL communications initiatives include:

The salouisville email listserv discussion groups moderated by Steve Bartlet ([email protected]), the convener of SAL and hosted on yahoogroups.

This Sustainable Agriculture Louisville website (http://geocities.com/salouisville) developed by David Silverman ([email protected]) of Communicas.

Cameron Lawrence, formerly  of Public Radio Partnership  has offered to brief SAL members on media relations at the SAL April 24 meeting.  Issues to be addressed include: handling aninterview, meeting with an editorial board, getting the attention of news directors and reporters, and talking to reporters, and the local intersection of advocacy groups and the media.

David Silverman of Communicas has offered to share Media Training Workshop resources from Communicas, the Louisville Community Communications project, the Kellogg Sustainable Agriculture Media Training program, Safe Energy Communications and other resources.

Community Farm Alliance has a newsletter, website and ongoing media relationships which SAL has access to as a chapter organization.

Ivor Chodowski mentioned that Virginia Ratterman
is trying to put together a directory of farmers and local buyers in a consumer oriented fashion prior to the Agrarian Conference in Georgetown. Aloma Dew of the Sierra Club forwarded Virginia Ratterman's offer to volunteer to pull material together for a brochure as well.

Sustainable Agriculture Louisville  members have appeared on the Renew Radio Forum series on WFPL FM in Louisville. SAL is also invited to participate in the Community Communications project for sustainable communications production Louisville.

Resources and Links to media organizations and tools will be posted here in the near future.
