| The Nephilim | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Birthing and Development On average, the Initium Occasus births one Nephilim each day. Hence, in the 125 years since the birthing of Baados, the Nephilim race has quickly grown, and although still vastly outnumbered by Humans across the World, many fear the growing population of Nephilim. When a Nephilim is birthed, it is a rather spectacular sight to behold. The Nephilim is first seen as a glowing blot of white light at the base of the Initium Occasus, which is gradually, over the course of an hour or so, expelled from the column of light. Once separated, the Nephilim rapidly develops into its finished form, although this process cannot be seen as the Newbirth is still surrounded by impenetrable white light. Between three and four hours after the Nephilim was first formed as a blot, it has matured into its finished form. Most Newbirths wander the nearby area for a few days or weeks, then move on, out of the Plains of Armaak and into the World. A few remain for much longer, and there are some who have never left the Plains, living their lives by roaming the wasteland, and usually preying on weaker or ostracised Nephilim and Humans. Those who approach The Observatory nearby are offered a brief training program, which lasts between two and five days, and teaches them about the World, and about themselves. Nephilim development differs wildly to Human development in some respects. Nephilim do not have childhoods, instead maturing instantly to what for Humans would be their adult form. During this rapid transformation, Nephilim also somehow pick up the potential ability to speak, read, write, and other basic forms of communication, and upon interacting in such ways with Humans or other Nephilim, it only takes a matter of hours to pick up these skills to an extent that allows basic communication, after which these skills can then be refined with simple practice. Once birthed, most Nephilim age and develop at the same rate as Humans, and although some are long-lived (such as Vodec, founder of the Zealots, who is 117 years old), the majority live naturally to 50 or 60 at most. Of course, given the nature of the Nephilim race, and especially the existence of the dreaded Soul Seekers, many Nephilim are killed long before then. Appearance and Diversity There is no way to singularly categorise a Nephilim, for their diversity is infinite. A Nephilim could take the form of a Human, a plant, an animal, something else altogether, or even no visible form at all. The majority are Human-like, and are able to, with a little effort, blend in with Human society. However, after 125 years, even the most outlandish of Nephilim are able to live among the Humans, as the two races have now reached a truce-like agreement, and it is now rare to find any kind of settlement without at least one or two resident Nephilim. |

| Nephilim Factions The Nephilim are a curious race; all are independent of each other and without family, yet many, like Humans, form companionship bonds (although Nephilim are incapable of breeding, either with each other, or with Humans). Although most Nephilim do not have any major political views or loyalties, there are a number of Nephilim Factions that have sprung up, with varying views on the world they inhabit, and particularly on the Humans with whom they share the World with. Click on a link below to find out more about each of the main Nephilim Factions. Click Templates at the bottom of the page to find Template Characters for members of each of these Factions. |
