Facts/Stats
-About half of the estimated $850 million inn material losses during SA-I-GU was incurred by Korean Americans.
-Edward Lee was the only Korean American fatality of SA-I-GU.
-According to a May 1992 study by the Koreann American Grocers Association (KAGRO), at the time, there were 3,320 Korean American-owned liquor stores and markets in Southern California with annual sales totaling $1.8 milion.



-According to a study by the Pacific Economiic Institute in 1990, there were 62,109 Korean American-owned properties within the seven Southern California counties, with a total value assessment at $45 billion.
-In black neighborhoods, Korean business ownership accounts for only 10% of all Korean businesses, which means that most Korean Americans run businesses in other low or lower-middle class neighborhoods in Los Angeles, including Koreatown.



-In November 1991, Korean grocery store owneer Soon Ja Du killed 15-year-old Latasha Harlins for stealing a bottle of orange juice. Controversially, Soon Ja Du received probation and no jail time.
-One-third of the 48 casualties were suffereed by Latinos



-30-40% of the stores lost were Chicano- or Latino-owned.
-Over 300 Chinese-owned businesses and Filipino-owned stores were lost during Sa-i-gu.
-Many Korean Americans fled Los Angeles afteer Sa-i-gu for nearby Orange County, doubling the Korean population of around 40,000.
