Concept of Fucntion 26.5.06
Definition:
Fucntion: give you a number when you plug in one number
Remember: function can only provide you one number out. If more than one, it is not a function.
Domain: what number can you plug in
Range: what number can go out
Argument of function: the value you put in
Value of function: output value of function
Example:
f(x) = 3x + 4
Points to note:
- f(x) is a fucntion, since when we give a value of x, we would only have one value of f(x)
- domain of f(x) is real number since we can put in any real number and still the 3x+ 4 can be evaluated properly
- Similary, range of f(x) is also real number, as any outcome could be achieved(why?)
- Arugment of f(x) is x.
- Value of fucntion f(x) at 1 is 5. (why?)
