BIOGRAPHY: Wraith was born in an isolated village in China. Before he was born, his widowed mother was bitten by a vampire while working in the rice fields and gave birth to her son before she died of shock. The vampire who attacked, named Taichi (AKA "Tai"), had barely bitten into her neck before she fought him off. Tai had hidden nearby and watched his victim die. When she was dead, he spotted the newborn baby lying near his mother's corpse. The boy was screaming and carrying on an unnaturally loud racket, causing the neighbors to come running. Taichi had half a mind to silence the child for good, but hesitated as he raised his sharp nails over the baby's heart. He looked over his back as he heard the shouting voices of the villagers coming nearer. Acting purely on impulse, Tai swept the child up in his arms and vanished into the surrounding mountains. He returned to his vampire clan (the Shadow Tigers), with the child. To say the least, they were not pleased with his rash decision. However, it was soon revealed to them that the boy had become a vampire minutes before he was born into the world (thus, the reason why he was crying louder than a normal baby would was because his fangs were already growing in. Talk about teething!). What had happened was when the child's mother fought off Tai, she had bitten his hand as he covered her mouth to silence her screams, accidentally drinking some of his blood. In turn, this caused her son's transformation. Tai eventually found out that the child's mother had risen as a vampire, but had a stake driven through her heart and got killed when she attacked a little girl in the village. Taichi's clan leader, Valor, decided to let Tai keep the child and raise him as punishment for bringing him into the vampire underworld in the first place. At first, Tai protested, but after a few weeks, fatherly instinct kicked in and he became fond of the boy. Two vampire women named Chyou ("autumn" in Chinese), and Guan-Yin (the name of the Chinese goddess of mercy), assisted Tai and showed him how to care for the child. Tai named the baby Wraith in honor of a human friend that he had met years ago whom had been killed by a Spliced Eye vampire. Wraith matured as fast as a normal human until he turned nineteen when he and Tai got into a heated argument over the fact that Lestat had been playing with human children instead of feeding on them. During their argument, Wraith attacked his vampire father and swiftly bit him, drinking some of his blood. After that incident, he never aged a day (the reason he had aged before this was caused most likely by the fact that he had not drank Tai's blood directly when he became a vampire as a baby).

After fifty years or so, Wraith became more and more independent and went to Scotland alone, eager to explore. Taichi soon followed him and found his "son" just as Wraith ran into a rival vampire and got into a fight. Wraith, still not completely adapt in the ways of the vampire, started to back off. But the other vampire kept advancing. Tai stepped in and took up the fight. However, the enemy vampire was much older than Tai and shoved him halfway through a tree trunk, impaling him on a silver stake he had taken out of his cloak, killing him. Wraith, enraged that he had not helped Tai, took the stake from Tai's chest cavity and managed to kill the vampire with it. Wraith never returned to China.

One afternoon, years later, Wraith was in the forest looking for prey. He had not fed in days and was famished. He smelled a human approaching him, so he hid in some bushes. When the human got closer, Wraith leapt out of hiding, tackling the young man to the ground and swiftly biting his neck, feeding on him as his victim tried to get away. The human, who had a bow and a few arrows with him, managed to grab an arrow and stabbed Wraith in the back, surprising the vampire enough to knock him off and stand up, the human clutching his arm where Wraith's nails had scratched deep cuts within his flesh. Wraith hissed at the red-haired man, glaring into his grey eyes with hunger and annoyance. The man got a large, sharp stick and tried fighting the vampire, but all Wraith did was easily dodge his blows, knowing that it was only a matter of time before the young man weakened; then he could finish his feast. He was correct: the man collapsed within minutes, dying from blood loss. Wraith finished feeding and was about to leave, but stopped when he looked at his victim, who was barely alive. He was impressed that the human had managed to stab him, even if it was careless of Wraith to let his guard down and the wound healed almost immediately afterwards. The boy's spirit was strong, and it fascinated Wraith. So, Wraith forced the human to drink some of his blood and dragged the man off and took him to a nearby cave, waiting for him to reawaken as a vampire. When he finally did, he was confused and hostile towards Wraith. Wraith managed to get the human's name: Zachariah Blaine Wallace. Zachariah ran away from the cave the next day, but Wraith did not get angry. He knew that Zachariah would soon realize that he would not survive without his vampyric father's guidance. When Zachariah did not return after four days, Wraith easily found him, weak and hungry. Wraith went to a nearby village and caught a ten year old boy, bringing him to Zachariah and ordering him to feed to regain his strength. Zachariah refused at first, but when Wraith bit the boy and he saw the red liquid, a strange hunger overtook him and he began to feed. He forced himself to just barely accept what he was, and that he could never return to his family. He stayed with Wraith, learning to survive.

A few years later, Zachariah and Wraith were wandering around the forest to pass away the time. They heard someone calling the name, "Jubilee," over and over. Zachariah ran towards the sound, leaving Wraith behind. He found Beatrix wandering around in the forest, looking for Jubilee. He approached her. Beatrix screamed at the sight of her supposedly dead brother, and Zachariah found himself restraining her with one arm and covering her mouth with the other. Even when she bit his hand and made it bleed, he did not draw it away as he tried to explain to her what had happened to him. However, seeing her neck triggered a second instinct to take over his better judgement and he bit her, feeding on his own sister. She was weakening fast as Zachariah heard a twig snap. He turned around and saw Jubilee. This caused him to snap back to reality. Realizing what he had done, he hissed at Jubilee to scare her away so that he would not attack her as well; then he fled. Wraith had followed Zachariah and watched all of this with a small smile. Instead of following his fledgling, he watched Jubilee attempt to aid her sister, who was beginning to transform into a vampire because she had accidentally drank some of her brother's blood when she had bitten his hand. When Mirage killed Beatrix and freed her soul so that she would not become a vampire, his smile faded to a look of annoyance. He left and found Zachariah, broken down and horrified at what he had done. Even though Wraith told him that her soul had been freed and that she would not become a vampire, Zachariah was still infuriated that he had helped to cause her death. He grabbed Wraith by the collar of his coat and demanded what had caused him to bite his sister and why Wraith had not helped to stop him. Wraith grabbed Zachariah's wrists and crushed them, causing him to let go. As Zachariah lay crumpled upon the ground, shocked and fascinated all at once as his healing abilities kicked in to repair his wrists, Wraith happily and smoothly explained that instinct takes over when a vampire sees someone's neck, blood, or hears and smells it. For newer vampires, it is harder for them to control what they do and who they bite for a period of time, but they gradually gain more control of themselves and who they choose to bite. Then he added that he enjoyed the carnage as Zachariah bit Beatrix and that, "The more vampires, the merrier." To say the least, Zachariah is not too fond of his "father," but he knows that he has no other choice than to stay with him because he has nowhere else to go and still needs him to survive. Even after these hundreds of years, he is still not the best when it comes to survival because he still clings to what little humanity he has left, and if Zachariah runs, Wraith follows.

Wraith and Zachariah traveled the globe, feeding on humans and learning how to survive. Wraith, unfortunately, found out that Jubilee was still alive---in a sense. He came across her in Syria. He smelled the similarity between her and Zachariah and recognized her face, even though she had matured greatly since he first saw her nearly four hundred years earlier when she was still a human child. He told Zachariah that his sister was now one of the undead and still wandering about. Therefore, Zachariah became obsessed with finding her, much to Wraith's displeasure. He and Zachariah soon ended up in the United States, and it was in Virginia when Wraith came across Jubilee (now called Kai), again with Zachariah. Zachariah sensed something familiar about her, especially her face, but he could never figure it out. Wraith eventually told Zachariah that Kai was Jubilee, but he misses seeing his fledgling suffer as he desperately tried to find her; he really enjoyed Zachariah's pain. Zachariah and Kai soon reunited and Ryoko convinced Wraith and Zachariah to live in their house. Zachariah was more than happy to stay because Kai had taken up residence there, but Wraith was more reluctant to give in. Meanwhile, the Shadow Tigers are after them. Valor had been killed mysteriously, leaving Amel in charge. Amel never liked Wraith and blames him for Taichi's death, convincing the entire clan to be enraged with Wraith not only because of Tai's death, but also because he turned a human into a vampire without their permission and ran off. Amel and the clan seek to get both Wraith and Zachariah to join the Shadow Tigers and stay with them. They both refused and the clan has vowed to start picking off all of their "little friends" until they agree to live in China or be killed in the process. Wraith, showing his rare, caring side, is making sure that he stays close to Ryoko and the others and made it a point that he would not let his clan harm any of them if he could help it.

QUIRKS: He liked taunting Zachariah about finding Kai, and he still does even though brother and sister have been reunited. Wraith does not like Kai because she is a fledgling of Nemesis and is extremely powerful, therefore a rival. He also despises Mirage because she has the power to wipe out the entire vampire race. Yet, if properly controlled, she could bring about humanity's destruction. Wraith is beginning to strive to capture the mare for his own, even if it means killing Kai to succeed. Clearly the reason he wants to do this is to keep Nemesis and his fledglings from wiping out the normal race of vampires, and to use Mirage to kill off all of the Spliced Eye vampires. Wraith finds Zachariah's attempts to cling to humanity amusing, and he cruelly teases him about it. He seems to enjoy tormenting Zachariah because he gets bored easily and finds Zachariah's temper entertaining. Wraith appears to have a small attachment to Ryoko and perhaps even a crush, even admitting to her face that he would turn her into a vampire and take her as his if he so chose to do so. He seems to care for her and respects her enough to not do this since she likes being mortal. Before his death, Taichi gave Wraith a dagger and a black and white kung fu uniform. Wraith rarely wears it unless it is a special occasion, treasuring its sentimental value. However, he carries the dagger around constantly and often uses it in battle. Despite his many bad qualities, Wraith is like Kai because of the fact that his alignment is neutral. He can just barely tolerate Kai and he wants Nemesis dead because of what he is (even helping Ryoko when he sees fit, giving her small clues as to how to overpower Nemesis), and has even started to grow fond of everyone in the Imaad household (much to his annoyance). But he is still a dark, even a bit cheerful, vampire.

THOUGHTS
: It seems that whenever I create a character, I keep adding onto their past and I eventually create more people. XP I originally planned Kai to find out that Zachariah had become a vampire, but then I thought, "How did he turn into a vampire and who did it?" So Wraith was born and as his character developed, I grew more and more fond of him and had him play a bigger role than intended. The tribal phoenix tattoo on Wraith's arm is of my own design and is symbolic because Wraith was pretty much the outcast of his clan at first and he had to fight to be accepted. After Tai died, Wraith was crushed and never returned to China. However, like a phoenix, he eventually rose up and took control of his destiny and continually strives to become stronger. Thus his nickname "Feng-Li," or "the Black Phoenix." Also, Wraith's mood swings make him unpredictable and complex because one never truly knows his motives. But man, talk about PMS! 9_9 ||| He can be helpful and calm one minute and then a total azzhole the next. I love all of my characters to beyond the point of obsession, but Wraith has to be one of my most favorites.
