BIOGRAPHY: Born in Scotland with the name Jubilee Anne Wallace in the 12th century, her father was from Ireland and her mother was a native Scotsman. She had a sister named Beatrix Allan who was eight years older than her and a brother named Zachariah Blaine, who was six years older than Beatrix. Jubilee and her family lived in the Scottish Highlands, farming various crops and raising sheep. Throughout her life, she heard stories of vampires. However, she never believed them and passed them off as fairy tales, but that did not stop her from becoming interested in their mythology. When she was six years old, Zachariah had gone out hunting one afternoon and never returned. Jubilee and her family mourned his assumed death, but the neighbors whispered amongst themselves that a vampire had gotten him. Of course, Jubilee and her family claimed the story was untrue, but deep down inside, Jubilee's mother could not help but reconsider this theory when Zachariah's body was never found.

When she was ten, Jubilee was playing in the woods with her dog. When the dog suddenly ran off, she went after him. A black alicorn mare with grotesque dragon wings and silver eyes appeared before her. Intrigued, she followed the creature deep into the forest. As it grew darker, the mare disappeared just as Jubilee found her dog. The canine was standing stock still, his hair raised and snarling as he stared ahead into the darkness of the trees. Jubilee slowly walked forward and peered around a large tree trunk. What she found stunned her. What seemed to be a pale, red-haired man in his early twenties was biting the neck of Beatrix, who had ventured into the forest to find her missing sister. Jubilee stumbled back in shock, snapping a twig in the process. The vampire looked up and spotted Jubilee. She screamed when she saw who it was: Zachariah. However, his eyes were not the warm grey they had once been. They were black and lifeless, as cold as stone. Zachariah hissed at her and vanished. The dog whimpered and ran off, never to return. Jubilee knelt beside of Beatrix, who was dying from blood loss and slowly beginning to transform into a vampire. Beatrix ordered Jubilee to get a stake and kill her so that she would not turn into one of the undead. Before Jubilee could protest, the black mare reappeared. Using strong magic, the demonic equine painlessly killed Beatrix, releasing her soul to Heaven. All Jubilee could remember afterwards was passing out and awakening in her bed, her parents in the room with her---along with Beatrix's body. Beatrix was buried the next day. Ever since that incident, Jubilee's parents would not allow their now only child to venture out alone.

When she turned eighteen, Jubilee's defiant and rebellious nature took hold of her and she snuck out one night to go to the spot where she had last seen Zachariah, hoping to find him again. When she arrived, she saw Beatrix's spirit. Jubilee tried to speak to her, but Beatrix would not answer. She just pointed behind her younger sister. Jubilee turned around to see the black mare yet again. The creature was pawing and snorting, occasionally rearing up. The mare turned and galloped back in the direction of the house, vanishing into thin air. Jubilee turned around to look at Beatrix, but she was gone. Hearing the mare's frantic cry, Jubilee felt fear tug at her heart. Before she knew what she was doing, she was running through the woods back to her home. When she arrived, all was quiet. A bit too quiet. She walked around a corner of the house and cried out in horror as her eyes fell upon what had once been the herd of sheep. Every single one had been ripped to shreds. Even the small herd of family cattle had been slaughtered, along with the ducks, chickens, geese, pigs, donkey, and the three horses. Crying in fear and heartbreak, she went into the house. Everything was dark except for the fireplace that had a few embers still burning. Jubilee jumped when she heard a wooden plate crash to the ground behind her. When she turned, she could just barely make out the outline of a black cat with silver eyes. Something about those eyes seemed oddly familiar. Just as Jubilee's mind wandered back to the winged mare, she heard a scuffling noise from within her parent's room. Putting the cat out of her mind, she slowly ventured towards the back bedroom. Opening the door, moonlight shone through the open window and washed over the scene of death that lay before her. Both her father and mother lay on the floor, their heads and limbs severed, and her father torn in half. Blood covered the walls, floor, and ceiling. Standing in the middle of the room was a tall man with long white hair and gleaming, red spliced eyes. Covered in the blood of both Jubilee's parents and the farm animals, he smirked as he announced that he had been waiting for her. Before Jubilee could run, the door slammed and lodged itself shut behind her. As he advanced towards her, she backed against the wall, scooting along its surface around the room. She asked him if he was a vampire. When he replied and said that he was half demon and half vampire, she accused him of being the one who had turned her brother into one of the undead. He merely laughed and said that it was not his doing. If it had been, then she could have been able to tell if she had looked into his eyes and seen slit pupils and eyes one of the three colors of fire: red, orange, or yellow. But as it was, a normal Black Eye vampire had been the one to turn Zachariah into a fledgling, thus turning his eyes black like most others. Jubilee tried to run towards the door, but the half-vampire used his demonic powers to freeze her in place. He introduced himself as Nemesis, and Jubilee's new father, right before he bit her and forced her to drink some of his own blood from his wrist. Once he had finished, he vanished, laughing as Jubilee collapsed to the floor and died her mortal death. The last thing she saw was the black cat, watching her from the bed with her icy, calm silver eyes, seemingly knowing that this was destined to happen.

Jubilee awoke three days later to find herself in a coffin deep underground. Her nails were now permanently long and black. Remembering what had happened and wondering why she had been buried alive, she easily broke out of the coffin and dug herself out of the ground. Fearful and confused, she looked at the hole she had dug out of and saw a large boulder marking her grave. She saw her parents' freshly dug graves along with Beatrix's, which was next to Zachariah's empty one. Getting her bearings, Jubilee ran back to her house. However, nothing was there but black ashes and half-burned logs from the housing frame. Even the stables had been burned. She ran into the forest and collapsed by a large pond, weeping. She stayed there the rest of the night. Before the sun rose, she sat up and looked at her reflection. Her once tan skin was now a ghastly white and her ice green eyes were orange with slit pupils. Her blonde hair had turned raven black and had orange streaks. She was a bit more muscular than she used to be as well. When she opened her mouth and saw her new fangs, she knew what had happened: she had become a vampire. Crying out in self pity, she looked up as the black mare appeared, walking across the water towards her, the mare's cloven hooves making small ripples across the water's surface. The winged horse lowered her head, allowing Jubilee to pet her. As the first rays of the sun touched Jubilee's skin, she squinted up at the clear sky in annoyance. It was much too bright. As if reading her thoughts, the mare led Jubilee to a nearby cave. When Jubilee entered and turned around to thank the mare, in her place was the black cat with the silver eyes, gazing up at her new comrad. Jubilee then understood that the cat had been the mare all along. As Jubilee sat down, petting the cat who lay curled up in her lap, she began to realize that she was no longer Jubilee. Jubilee was dead. She needed a new name. Racking her brain while trying to think of something, she jumped when she heard a woman's voice say the word, "Kai." Jubilee looked down at the cat, but she appeared to be asleep. Thinking it over in her mind and liking the sound of the word, she decided to rename herself Kai.

For five hundred years, Kai roamed the world alone with no one to aid her but the black mare, whom she had dubbed Mirage. She did not talk much (there was usually no need to), and she learned quickly the ways of the vampire, feeding off of humans and occasionally other vampires to get stronger and to survive. She ventured to Romania one night to feed. Discovering Transylvania, she decided to explore knowing that the area was famous for vampires. Finding Bran Castle, she scaled the walls and snuck in, leaving Mirage to do what she pleased. Kai had heard that Dracula used to live there and began exploring the castle. However, she ran into someone she had not expected: Nemesis. He taunted her into a fight, but Kai was unable to cause her vampyric father much damage. Nemesis sapped her power away and raped her; Kai was too weak to fight back. When he was finished having his way with her, he scratched her across the eye, leaving a permanent scar, and left. Broken over having her innocence, her last precious possession, stolen from her, Kai left Romania with Mirage, refusing to speak at all. Over the next few hundred years, she sank into an even deeper darkness.

One day she came to the United States. Visiting the Virginia countryside, she was exploring a grocery store when she ran into
Ryoko and her group. Curious about the mismatched gang, she followed them around the store. Kenyamon spotted Kai and immediately said hello and asked her what her name was. For the first time in hundreds of years, Kai spoke, telling Kenyamon her name. Ryoko dragged Kenyamon away, apologizing to Kai. When Wolf alerted Hoofamon of the "hot chick" that was watching them, the alicorn Beast (in his human form), spotted Kai. Getting a dark look on his face, he sternly ordered Ryoko to hurry up and find the evaporated milk, anxious to get away from the vampire. He had felt something strange from her, but he did not know if it was an evil force or not. Perhaps the reason why he does not trust her is because he does not even know what her alleigance is. When she realized that Ryoko was her soul's reincarnation, Kai eventually began to follow them around constantly. Kai decided to reside at Ryoko's whenever she felt like it, which seems to be most of the time.

QUIRKS: She is related to the hero William Wallace. Though Kai is slow to anger, when she is angry she will not hesitate to kill and is extremely fierce and dangerous; she is a cold-blooded killer when need be. No one knows what her true purpose is other than finding Zachariah. She is not too fond of Wraith because of the joy he finds in tormenting Zachariah and the fact that he was the one who turned her brother into a vampire in the first place, taking him away from her for the longest time. At the same time, she is even a little glad that Wraith turned Zachariah because now that the siblings have reunited, Kai no longer feels alone. She is well aware of Wraith's desire to gain possession of Mirage and is aware that he will kill Kai in order to succeed, so she keeps a close watch on him and is always ready to defend the demon mare. Since she is a vampire and thus no longer has a soul, it was reincarnated into Ryoko, which could quite possibly be the reason why they look exactly alike---with the exception of the hair, eye color, and Ryoko's fox ears and tail. Kai appears to dislike Nemesis greatly, but no one knows whether her alignment is good or evil. Some of her powers include Phasing in and out of place, shapeshifting (a black crow being her favorite form to take), rapid healing abilities, controlling others, producing a black energy blade around her arm, and several other unknown abilities. She can speak English, Gaelic, Latin, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, German, Dutch, and Russian. She appears to have a fascination with cars and other motorized vehicles and frequently reads up on how they function. She often disappears without warning, namely when Nemesis is around. However, it is not known what she does when she is off by herself. Like all of Nemesis's fledglings, she has spliced eyes like her vampyric father. It is believed that Kai views the scar given to her by Nemesis as a lasting reminder of what he has done to her and the need for her revenge.

THOUGHTS: Easily the most tortured female of the group, Kai has been scarred both mentally and physically by her past, which is a fine example that anyone's world can come crashing down around them at any given time. Not that Ryoko needed even more attention than she already has now as the main character, I wanted to have something deeper going on. When someone becomes a vampire, they no longer have a soul. Thus in Kai's case, it was reincarnated into Ryoko. Ryoko acts a lot like what Kai used to be like with maybe just a little more spunk, and the vampire and fox girl look exactly alike in both body and especially in the face and are the same height, but Kai is more or less the grey between the black (Plague) and white (Ryoko). Therefore, the three share a special kind of connection. The bond may not always be obvious, but it's there; three people as one. Kai has a strong friendship with Mirage. The mystical mare chose Kai as a companion for reasons unknown and looks upon the vampire woman as a lost child that she has taken in as her own. Mirage is somewhat like a guiding light to Kai.
