At Oakland Community College I had taught the core of English as a Second Language curricula; Speaking/Pronunciation, Grammar, and Writing. To help students become better adjusted to the demands of college I ran a short workshop on computer usage in my writing class. My love of grammar must have shown through, for it was these students whom nominated me as an outstanding ESL Adjunct Professor.

Columbia University

I graduated from Columbia University's Teachers' College receiving the Peace Corps Fellowship for my Masters in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Columbia is the second best graduate school for Teaching in America, U.S. News and World Report's 1999 ranking. As a condition of receiving the Peace Corps Fellowship I had been required to teach full time in the New York City Public Schools. East Brooklyn Congregational - Bushwick is situated in one of the most impoverished neighborhoods of Brooklyn. As an ESL teacher I "push into" two Algebra 1 classes and assist small groups of students to provide scaffolding needed for comprehensible input to occur. In Earth Science I provide one "push in" period and one Sheltered English Instruction Self Contained period. Manhattan Alternative to Detention taught me to work with students who had severe learning difficulties in ESL, reading and writing. Students were from disadvantaged and or interrupted education backgrounds. Students were mandated to the school by Family Court in lieu of probation. Students usually attend for 3-5 months until they receive a final judgment for their sentencing.

Peace Corps Philippines

As a Peace Corps Volunteer I focused on two fields teaching and village water systems. I taught 3 high school classes, two 4th year and one 1st year. I developed a critical writing curriculum for my 4th year students. I focused on speech recognition with my 1st year students. As a water and sanitation volunteer I worked with the local communities to repair one and construct two gravity fed village water systems, refurbish two deep wells, construct a shallow well and facilitate the organization of one community water cooperative. Funding was obtained from local and national aid agencies. Two of my grant proposals generated $15,000 US Dollars in funding from two international aid agencies, USAID and CEBMO, a Dutch aid agency. In all of these projects I worked in the local dialect with the elected and natural community leaders.

Management Experience

Enterprise Rent A Car trained me to be as efficient as possible with a limited time and resources. I was responsible for the daily maintenance, service, rental and account management of a fleet of (50 – 100) vehicles. As marketing manager I conducted 3 events, a Region wide Bar-B-Q, with over 200 attendants, a Picnic with the agents with 100 agents and an open house at an agent’s office. I was responsible for all planning, purchasing and logistics for these events.
