The
Enterprise
There are
thousands of Organisations in the World, which are engaged in
the business of creating wealth by production of goods &
services for all walks of life. The Strategies for the
Enterprise Resource Planning is but a reflection of this logic.
Their business logic demands a tool, which evolves into a
strategic plan, integrating the over-all business operations,
providing vital information at any given point of the life cycle
of the Organisation, enabling them to plan their resources.
Logistics management in an Enterprise has evolved with the
adoption of ERP & is further getting morphed into Supply
Chain Management applications. ERP has come to signify a
never-before opportunity for Organisations to gain a clear edge
over their competitors. Enterprise Resource Planning
(ERP) is no ordinary term today.

Understanding
ERP
ERP not only
influences the very culture of the Organisation, but also
impacts the larger environment in which any Organisation
thrives.
'Where
am I, where do I want to be?'
There is
hardly much of a choice. While each Organisation has a freedom
to decide on co-ordinates of its existence in the domain of
space & time, the ground reality that all Organisations have
to confront is that the old ways of doing business simply do not
work anymore. The 'here and now' crisis of competitiveness that
corporations face today is not the result of a temporary
economic downturn or of a low point in business cycle. In
today's environment nothing is constant or predictable. The
forces that are driving present day Organisations into domains
are the three Cs -
-
Customers take Charge.
- Competition Intensifies.
- Change becomes Constant.
These
characteristics are not new; they have been present all along.
It is just that until recently Organisations did not have much
to worry about them.
