Welcome to my sadness.
I live in what is often proclaimed as the most powerful country in the world.
Yet I am all but powerless.
If America is not now a truly fascist state, there is no state that has ever existed that has been closer.
I would not doubt that in a couple more years, people like me will be arrested, for what amounts to saying something that hurt someone's feelings.
Bush is a cocksucker. I hurt his feelings.
Monica Lewinsky (who turned 28 recently) has nothing on Bush.
Ashcroft is an asswipe.
And just recently, they arranged it so that a man by the name of Poindexter will head an agency designed to cull every byte of information about every citizen in the US.
Most of you probably don't know who the fuck Poindexter is.
Allow me to shed some light on this dispicable subject.
20 years ago, there was a numb-nut by the name of Ronald Reagan who came to power in the USA. Immediately, plants closed down, people lost their jobs, people lost their homes, and wages stagnated. There were at least three MAJOR recessions during this assholes 8-year reign...but I'm getting off the point.
See, there's this country called Iran that was holding a bunch of Americans hostage. It was an election year. America, on the one hand, was trying to negotiate their release. And they had succeeded, but they didn't know it. Why?
Because there was this guy named Poindexter who ran with this group of people trying to get Reagan elected, and they talked Iran into holding the hostages until after the election (even though Iran was going to release them months beforehand).
Pretty neat guy, huh? An Admiral in the American Navy who negotiated with a country to keep other Americans held hostage in order to help his party win the election.
It gets worse.
See, Iran was at war with Iraq (yes, Saddam's Iraq) and they needed arms. So, on the one hand, we were selling all these arms to the Iraqi's and giving them poison gas and other really neat things, while at the same time we were selling arms to Iran, see?
We were selling arms to both sides.
Poindexter was the point man in all of that, and Oliver North was his lacky.
They took the money that they got from Iran and used it to fund an illegal and honest-to-God gruesome war in Nicaragua.
The CIA printed handbooks that encouraged the "contras" or "freedom fighters" (freedom had nothing to do with what they were fighting for) to kill teachers, doctors, priests, engineers helping to build bridges, etc.
God's truth.
The USA was even condemned in the World Court, the only country to have ever been condemned in fact, for terrorism against Nicaragua, and the Court ordered the USA to pay Nicaragua about $9 billion in reparations. Of course, America never did. What they did do was step up their attacks and increase their already draconian economic pressure.
Those are the kind of Republicans that worked for Ronald Reagan, and those are the kind of Republicans that are here once again, working for Bush.
So I'm dead fucking serious about the gravity of our situation.
Sometimes Poindexter and North used that Iranian money to buy plane-loads of cocaine, then they flew the stuff back to America, sold it for a hefty profit, and then used the proceeds against Nicaragua...among other evils, no doubt.
The Reaganites did a lot of other dirty shit, too, but Poindexter managed to destroy most of the evidence. He and North never said a word because they knew they would be pardoned by Reagan, who claimed not to know anything about the whole affair.
Yes, Poindexter bragged about that part - doing something without notifying his superiors.
If that were true, why would Bush be so eager to bring him on board?
Would you hire someone who bragged about lying to his own boss? Maybe you would if you knew that the truth was that his boss knew all along. That's loyalty.
Poindexter was convicted of 5 felonies, including conspiracy, lying to Congress, defrauding the government, and destroying evidence.
...deep sigh...
But here he is, heading an agency that will make it a point to track my every move.
And that's just another reason Why America Sucks.

America is being run by a president who has people who protest against him arrested unless they do it in 'free-speech' zones. If that doesn't scare you, then you're not paying attention.

It never takes you people very long to tell people like me to move away. If people like you would help us change all of the many things that are wrong with our country, there would be no reason to move, and the world would be a better place.

And then read this one, especially the parts about how it took over 1 hour and 20 minutes for a fighter jet to take off on the eastern seaboard on 9/11 when it is standard operating procedures for jets to take off as soon as a commercial airliner deviates from its flight path. Why didn't they take off? Why has nobody been sacked because of it? Obviously because Bush ordered them to stay on the ground. He needed the attack to draw the nation into war. The oil companies needed it, and the defense contractors needed it to such an extent that they launched a cruise missile attack on the Pentagon by themselves. And I won't bother to go on because with every fact I throw at you it will be like a weighty stone bouncing off a granite wall of obdurant, willful ignorance.

We've imposed severe trade embargoes against them and, just as we've done to Cuba, we've threatened economic retaliation against any nation that chose to broke those embargoes, unless of course we're talking about Cheney as the CEO of Halliburton from 1998 to 1999 when he did over $23 million dollars worth of biz with Saddam.

My idea of my country is the people within it, and by extension, since a country is nothing but a line on a map, the people of the world.
But to these assholes, their country is something much more precious than that.
It doesn't matter to them that one out of five of our children is living in poverty.
Those children do not represent their 'country.'
It doesn't matter to them that many of the people in America can't afford health care or retirement.
Those people are not a part of their 'country.'
The only thing that justifies their fucked-up 'country' is greed and 'me first', usurious 'competitiveness'. And they'll tell you, with a straight face, that 99% of the people in our country who bust their asses for a living have the same rights as the richest 1% who run all of the stock market and own most of the land.

It is no model to follow.

I…have to just say 'fuck it' to politics…for a while….
It's beyond my control.
The idiots and the assholes are in charge, and nothing that I say or do will change their minds.
Yeah…it's in fate's hands.
All of the poor and middle-class Republicans (yes, they exist: unwitting masochists) have totally convinced themselves that Iraq is going to attack us. No evidence has been presented other than some bad acting on the part of a dim-witted president…but for the greater part of under-educated America, that's more than enough.
Last Saturday I was sitting in my favorite local dive bar with two poor cowboys and one poor Mexican…and each and every one of them was behind Bush 100% and just couldn't wait to drop bombs on Iraq.
Our country is a very ugly place, and though the resemblance has been noted before, I have to reiterate it here: I can't help but feel that pre-WWII Germany was just like this, in mood, in blindness.
America is a sad place. You go out for lunch, or go to the mall, anywhere…you never see anybody happy. They're just slaving away for their hourly pay.
But if you speak out against it, you're patriotism is immediately questioned.
For those of you who do not live in America, I'm telling you in all seriousness, if the Republicans gain control of all three branches of our government…and they very well may…things are going to get very ugly.
And I'm sorry.
I don't know what else to say.
It's beyond my control.
