Belgian Mole (part 2)

Episode 8

The group was absolutely devastated. Especially Niki, because she and Carine were best friends. It was very hard for her.
Carine hopes Niki isn't the Mole.

Day 19
They go to a town, which consist of many small roads and alleys. It's actually almost a small maze. Everyone had to fill out a questionnaire. The challenge consists of 3 rounds. Each round is for 50.000 BEF. One contestant is locked in a house. The two others have to answer the same questions as that person had answered. If they answer the same they'll reach the house where the contestant is locked. Hugo gets locked up first. Marianne and Niki have to find him.
Question 1: Who do you least want tobabysit on your children?
If they think he said Marianne they take the stairs to the right. If they think it's Niki they'll go left. Niki:"Does he trust you?" Marianne:"Yes, I think so." Niki:"I think he trusts you more than me." Eventually they do decide to go for Niki. Every answer leads to a different way. Marianne:"So if we had the first one wrong, we'll never reach the right place?" Michiel:"No."
Question 2: The world is perishing. Who will notice it last?
Niki:"I chose Marianne on that question." Marianne:"Yes, I think he'll think I'll still be asleep when the world is perishing." So they go for Marianne.
Question 3: If someone would cheat on her partner, who would it be?
Marianne immediately says it's her. Marianne:"We talked about it and you said you wouldn't start anything like that anymore." Niki:"And maybe he thinks it will happen sooner a your relationship." Marianne:"Cut! Cut!" They have to knock on the door of house number 6. But nobody answers. Hugo isn't there. They go to the right house and ask the questions to Hugo. He had answered Niki to every question. There's no 50.000 BEF.
Niki is locked up.
Question 1: You're on a wooden raft at sea. Who would you eat first?
Marianne:"She can eat more if she choses you, because you're the tallest.' They go for Hugo.
Question 2: Whose diary would you most want to read?
Hugo:"Aren't women more interested in diaries of other women?" They go for Marianne.
Question 3: Who do you like least?
Marianne:"Don't take it personal, but I think Hugo, because the women were very close." Hugo agrees, so they go for Hugo. They knock on the corresponding door and Niki opens. They win 50.000 BEF.
Marianne gets locked up. And Niki and Hugo have to find her.
Question 1: Whose hair-do would you like to change?
Niki:"I think she chose me, because she knows I want my hair to be good." Hugo:"And there isn't much hair left with me to change." They go for Niki.
Question 2: You think someone has a silly hobby. Who?
Niki:"I think she chose Hugo." Hugo:"Does she know your hobbies?" Niki says she does. Hugo:"Don't take it personal, but I think she chose you." Niki agrees and they go for Niki.
Question 3: Marianne has won 1.000.000 BEF. Who will be most jealous?
Niki:"Are you a jealous person?" Hugo:"No." Niki:"Me neither, not about money." They guess Hugo. They knock at the door, but nobody answers. They go to the correct house and ask Marianne what the correct answers were. It turns out Niki and Hugo had them all wrong.
So they only won 50.000 BEF in this challenge. Maybe they don't know each other as good as they thought, or maybe someone had answered the questions in such a way, that they were bound to arrive at the wrong house.

In each house there was an envelope, with a clue about their next challenge on it. Hugo has 'Timber', Niki has 'balletje-balletje' (balletje= small ball) and Marianne has 'class'. It turns out each contestant has to do an individual challenge. Hugo has to cut a dead tree. Around the tree there are 4 cars. He must try not to hit any car. If the tree doesn't hit one, he will earn 50.000 BEF. On the cars there are amounts of money written on them: 25.000, 50.000, 75.000, 100.000. If the tree hits a car, the amount written on the car will be taken from the total of money they won up to now. Hugo tries to starts the chainsaw, but it won't work. He cuts himself in the leg. He decides to use an axe, but it takes too long. So he tries the chainsaw again. But there's a lot of wind. The tree is weaving from side to side. After a while, the tree falls, but it hits the 75.000 BEF car. 75.000 BEF out of the kitty. Hugo is very disappointed.
Niki has to play the game balletje-balletje. I don't know the English name for it, but it's the game where there are three cups and a small ball. The cups get shuffled and you have to guess under which cup the ball will be. Niki gets 15.000 peseta's. She is being filmed by hidden camera's. She has to get people to play the game with her. If they guess it right, Niki loses 1.000 peseta's. If they don't guess it correctly, Niki will win the 1.000 peseta's. She has to win 3 times. So she gets 15 chances (because every round she has to stake 1.000 peseta's and she has a total of 15.000 peseta's) The first man who wants to play, immediately wins. 14.000 peseta's left. She has never done it, and she lets the cups drop several times. She's very nervous. After a while she only has 8.000 peseta's left and she hasn't won anything. The Spaniards get to know that they can win money with Niki. She loses again, and again.... and again! She only has 5.000 peseta's left. Then there's a guy who finally guesses it wrong. She now has 6.000 peseta's and has to win 2 times more. She loses another 3 times, so she only has 3.000 peseta's. Finally someone has it wrong again, so the 3.000 becomes 4.000. It got dark, and it's her last chance, because she's playing with her last 1.000 peseta's. She has to win the game now, to earn 50.000 BEF. And she does! So the 75.000 BEF loss of Hugo is now narrowed down to a loss of 25.000 BEF. Marianne maybe can make it turn into profit.
She had to teach a class of kids a Belgian song. The song is called 'Heyah Mama' and it is sung by a Belgian group called K3. But of course the Spanish children don't speak Dutch, so it's rather difficult. Here's the Dutch text:

Hittegolf in de stad (heat wave in the city)
Laat mij vanavond naar je kamer komen (let me come to your room tonight)
Duizend hete dromen (a thousand of hot dreams)
Ik wil jou, jij wil mij (I want you, you want me)
Slaap nu maar zacht en laat je ramen open (sleep tight and let your windows open)
Ik kom er aangeslopen (I'm sneaking in)

That's the first strophe. As you can see, it's not easy when you don't know Dutch. The kids find it very difficult too. Their singing gets recorded. And that evening Niki and Hugo have to write up the text of the first strophe. They listen to it. Hugo says he doesn't even recognize the song. But Niki says it's 'Heyah Mama'. She listens to the chorus. The chorus is very simple: 'Heyah, heyah mama di heyah; heyah mama di heyah; he he he he he he he he he he he' (I know it sounds weird, but note that these words don't exist in Dutch language either!) Niki listens to it very carefully and then says the first words must be 'Heyah mama di heyah' The host is laughing behind her back. He then says it's not very important to know the chorus, but that they need the first strophe. Niki listens and Hugo will write it on the board. Niki is mumbling and grumbling. The only thing you hear is something like "Grfgmmmss. Hmmgf." She's just mumbling weird things. Then she says she thinks the first words are: In mijn hoofd, in mijn hart, laat de mannen komen, laat de mannen zachtjes dromen (= In my head, in my heart, let the men come, let the men dream softly) Michiel(the host):"If it is of any assistance, the song was on the tape in the car." Niki:"Yes I know but it was always put on fast forward when that song was on." We see a flashback: Eef is in the car, and 'Heyah Mama' is on. Eef asks to put it on fast forward, but nobody listens to her, so she does it herself. We see Hugo singing to it and Eef fast forwarding it again.
Michiel:"So it was on the tape for a reason."
Niki:"Yes, but it was always put on fast forward, because nobody liked the song!"
She mumbling again, but they decide to quit. Michiel reads the original text, and it's completely different from what Hugo and Niki had written down. Hugo laughs and puts a cross over the text. So they lost 25.000 BEF in this challenge.

Dinner talk
While they are having dinner, Michiel interviews them about the entire Mole game.
Michiel:"You participated in this game for 3 weeks. How would you describe this game? What does it mean to you?"
Hugo:"It was instructive for myself. How I fit in a group or not. How my actions and reactions affect the group. I will learn my lessons out of that."
Niki:"I found it fantastic, stirring. Every day you did something new and I found it great how well I felt myself in the group with people I didn't know."
Marianne:"It meant a lot of pressure for me. Not as a person, but as a group too. And definetely when you're placed in a group you didn't really choose for. That's tough sometimes."
Michiel:"If you would be the Mole, would you feel guilty?"
Marianne:"I wouldn't feel guilty. No, I have respect for our Mole. I think the Mole did a great job, because it's difficult to keep it up for 3 weeks."
Niki:"I think our friendship is too strong in the group to feel guilty as Mole."
Hugo:"I'm a group person. I want to succeed and the role of the Mole is to sabotage and I think I would have a lot of trouble with that."
Michiel:"If you would be the Mole, how would you have sabotaged?"
Hugo:"If I could I would sabotage in a way that wouldn't harm the group to much."
Marianne:"I think I would focus on individual challenges, because then the rest of the group wouldn't be there."
Michiel:"Are you aware of it that one of the people at this table, cost you a lot of money?"
Hugo immediately nodds and Marianne and Niki look at each other. Hugo:"Definitely!" Everybody laughs.
Michiel:"Ok, I think we can stop. Maybe one last question so we can skip tomorrow's selection? Will the real Mole please stand up?"
Marianne and Niki look at each other and start laughing. Hugo looks at them. Nobody stands up, though!

Day 20
The contestants are driving on a horse through a valley. They end in a desert where there are 3 round structures with a chair and a pc. In the middle there's a big round structure with only a chair. They walk to Michiel.
Michiel:"Dear friends. You only have one more challenge to do. Maybe the most imortant of the entire show: Expose the Mole! Good luck"
Every contestant goes to their own round structure. They sit down and wait. Wait till it gets dark. Then they get the sign to start. Everyone is talking about the others and about what happened during the entire show.
Marianne:"Hugo is a wise man. A very intelligent man. But on the other hand he can be stubborn too."
Hugo:"I think Niki is occupied with a lot of things, including herself."
Niki:"Marianne doesn't have any highs nor lows. Everybody likes her and everybody will say something to her, but you get to know little of her."
Marianne:"Niki... she has a lot of energy."
Niki:"I don't know much about Hugo."
Marianne:"If a see a man with a moustache, I always think that's to hide something."
Hugo:"Marianne is someone who looks around and she acts very methodically."

The very last suspicions
While they are filling out the questionnaire, we see some of the questions they have to answer. We then hear a contestant's thoughts about it and see a flashback of it.

In which group was the Mole in the very first challenge on the mountain ?
Flashback: Episode 1 Marianne's sleeping bag falls in the abyss. Marianne:"I didn't do that on purpose!" Dominiek:"Inspection!"
Niki:"That sleeping bag was tighten very hard, but she... she was wearing the bag..."

 Flashback: Episode 3 We see Niki looking in the books and afterwards she says:"I didn't look in them!" Luc:"You didn't?" Niki:"Yeah right, what if there was another hidden camera there!"
Hugo:"Actually, I was supecting Marianne a little bit, but I've changed my mind today."

Did the Mole do a tienda ?
Flashback: Episode 2 We see Hugo in the bull ring. Dominiek:"If I don't have to, I don't have to!" Hugo:"I'm appealing to your sense of honour!"
Marianne:"There's a few things about Hugo, that I just didn't understand anymore."

When did the Mole get on the carriage ?
Flashback: Episode 3 Marianne tries to find the author of 'The Godfather'
Hugo:"If you really want to fail, that was the perfect challenge."

Did the Mole ever earn an exemption ?
Flashback: Episode 3 Hugo:"Quick get inside! You're safe here!" BANG!!! He shoots Luc.
Marianne:"It was about time someone of the group had to betray the others."

Flashback: Episode 5 Hugo and Marianne are running to the hotel. Hugo:"Come on Marianne! Hurry!" Marianne(coughing):"Yeah, yeah, wait a minute!"
Hugo:"In the beginning she played the game that she really wanted to get there, but that must have been a manoeuvre."

In how many failed challenges was the Mole involved ?
Flashback: Episode 6 The Hacienda challenge. The attacker knocks over the bowl while yelling. David:"What happened?" Niki:"Game Over!"
Niki:"I made a mistake too, by leaving my post with the bowl."

Flashback: Episode 6 Hugo is teaching Marianne the skid-control. But they slip. Marianne screams and Hugo yells:"Shit!"

Who is the Mole ?
We hear their voices:
Marianne:"I would find it very bad if it would be Hugo."
Hugo:"I think Marianne knows she's very suspicious."
Niki:"I'm starting to think he can be the Mole too."
Marianne:"If I would be the Mole, I would find it very difficult."
Hugo:"I'm sure Niki was able to do that!"
Niki:"Or Marianne..."
Marianne:"He would be the perfect Mole!"

The lights go out...

It's very dark...
