as i watched the sun fade. brought strength to conquer, to conquer a new day. the rain washed away all the fears. of what's to come in pressing years. filled with all your pride. filled with all your lies. i have been denied. i'll rebuild and strive to shine. <unlearn, my will broken. regress, no words spoken. decline, into submission. broken, chose not to listen.> these restrictions are paper thin. these walls are built within. i don't believe i've lost my will. tomorrows foundations are too unstable to build. don't interpret my dreams. hidden beneath broken wings. for all the times i've been denied. i'll rebuild and strive to shine. these sins are washed away. your biting words that held me back. will be ignored. i'll be restored. (fading) your comfort lies in tearing down. all my self truths, i'll be renewed. (building) fading...building...finding truth...rising. these words that couldn't be. of dreams, of dreams. these sins that couldn't be. of dreams, of dreams. touched by fire. these words that could be. of dreams that strengthen me. your words that cut through me. will be succeeded by my will to love. touched by fire.

lyrics by eli.

The title was taken from a book of poetry (the name of the author escapes me, however) and in life, at times it seems, my single worst enemy is criticism. Negativity is like the fucking plague, it eludes hope like a ghost. I wrote these words at a time in my life where everything I had done (be it art, skateboarding or music) or experienced was placed on the altar of criticism and these words were my only savior from the negativity I was feeling. I was amazed one day when Chad, a long time friend of mine struck up a conversation on the bus and this lady had completely torn down his lifelong dream of being a train conductor. This made me question why some one who Chad has never met or offended would take pride in literally tearing holes in his dream just because it didn't suit her tastes. It seems as though society has a negative effect on our goals by trying to limit our "childish" dreams from our so called "appropriate ones".  Life is what we make of it and what we pour into it and I refuse to believe anyone can make me deny whichever path I choose, or me to restrict anyone else's.  -Eli
