we've burned your dividing lines so you'll have to find new ways to shine.  i've seen nights like this and still was blind.  so we'll continue to push it through because days like these place the burden on you  /we've held this light with outstretched hands so you'll let it go and understand.  why draw lines that speak no truth when all we need is to see it through.  we'll spill this truth all over you so you can no longer claim callused youth.  it's in my heart, it's in my hands/  we've burnt our hands but we never learn, so you'll so you'll never believe me and you will heal burned.  i'll continue pouring out the truth in a quick succession, questions lie in all of the lessons.  why turn your back when things grow cold when all you know is all your told.  so i'll burn my truth through to you so you'll never have to feel like i do, it's in my heart it's in my hands to continue this line so you'll fear no darkness and find new ways to shine.

One of the most amazing things about writing songs is seeing how they affect people. This is one of my main reasons for forming rise above, among  forming  a closer bond with my friends, meet new people and share things with them so I can feel that I can give something back to the people who have given so much to me. This song was written about a rather confused time where I studied and thought about religion and death. At this time I had given up on some things that I really cared about and to see the reaction that these clumsy words brought about had brought tears to my eyes. Sammy and I have talked on great lengths about religion and life and he is the only person to share my views and also draw parallels which I had not seen. (we both don't believe in organized religion and are fascinated by philosophy). In the book The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald he states "What little I have accomplished has been by the most laborious and uphill work, and I wish now I'd never relax or looked back" and at the end "I have found my line-from now on this comes first. This is my immediate duty-without this I am nothing." And this has given me faith.  -Eli.
