really useful stuff you want to know..but didn't know who to ask
Before preparing and consuming fruits/vegetables they must be washed and disinfected. Several products are available for this such as "Microdyn", a local favorite, available in GTO at Comercial Mexicana or in Leon at Sam's Wholesale Club. Simply add the required number of drops to your container which you have filled with tap water, add your veggies and let soak per the directions on the bottle.

To avoid plumbing problems, always put toilet tissue (not to mention anything else) in the trash and not down the toilet itself. Charmin toilet tissue is now available here.
To decrease your chances of getting sick, always use bottled water for cooking, drinking, teethbrushing, medicine-taking, etc. The preferred brand here is Risco. The water vendors make rounds almost daily in most neigborhoods and take it into your house. A small tip is customarily given. [As of 2/2001 the price of a 5 gal bottle of Risco is 16 pesos]
Most stoves/ovens here use propane. They are supplied by copper tubing connected to either portable propane cylinders or stationary tanks. The gas vendors also make almost daily rounds through the neighborhoods and announce their arrival by banging the metal utility poles along the way and shouting "GAS" (what else?) . The vendors will deliver the portable tanks to your designated service area. These are very heavy, so a tip is customary and very much appreciated. [As of 1/2001 a tank of gas is 182 pesos]
