In this adventure, the hook wasn't terribly well thought out - admittedly. The cliche old man in a tavern appeared, and gave them a map. (Hey, I was new to this back then.) The map lead them to a dragon named Aguardiel, and he proclaimed he was the "Guardian of Time." He persuaded them to enter the portal, saying he was bound to wait until they came (they were apparently who he had been waiting aeons for) and they found themselves transported back to sometime in the late 1880's -- to Guardjief.
The long and short of it is, Matt's character attempted to launch a massive fireball at the Caladorian forces, only to critically fail - and ended up smiting the elves of Aralon. This event changed history - and ultimately lead to the creation of Joker.
After, the PC's traveled back further - to the ancient city of Tristitia - where they met a dark prophet whom they had met at the Steamborg factory.
Seduced by the power the Prophet offers, Matt's character stays to learn and aids in the ceremony to trap the essence of Tristitia into the stones of power.
When he returns, he engages in battle with Paul's D'Amberville and eventually succeeds.
None of the characters are ever heard from again.
