Hi, my name is Becky. I used to be pretty wimpy when it came to doing
projects around the house. I thought that house projects were just things
that men took care of. Well, about eight years ago, I decided to buy my
own house and since the man of my dreams didn't come with the house, I decided
it was time to learn a few things. When I was looking for a house in my price range,
most were ones that had orange counter tops and green carpeting. You know,
the 70's look. I shied away from those because of the way they looked and
chose a home that was decent to move in to, live for a while and remodel
later. Although I love my little house, had I known then what I know now,
I would have went for one of those more outdated houses and gotten a lot more
for my money. Thanks to the free classes and wonderful, helpful
people at the Tigard Home Depot (my favorite Home Depot), I discovered that many
home projects are really quite easy. I have replaced linoleum floors,
tiled my kitchen counters, tiled my entryway, and replaced light fixtures,
electrical outlets and switches. I have replaced sinks, faucets and know
how to remove, replace and fix a toilet. I hired a man to build me a
fireplace mantel and had to end up finishing it myself and one of the latest
projects I completed, is I had my carpeting removed and installed my own hardwood
floors. Outside, I installed new drainage, ran electricity to my shed and
helped to roof my house. I now have more tools than many of
the men I know and I
even have men asking ME for advice. I by all means haven't done
everything around my house. I have a sense of what I feel comfortable
doing and some of it I have hired done. I hired to have a fireplace
installed, to have French doors installed and to have a deck built. I
don't feel I have to do everything, it's just nice to know there is a lot I can
do. My motto is 'Try to do it yourself and if you screw it up, THEN hire
someone to fix it'. If you are wondering why I have a web site, I didn’t plan it that way. I originally created it as a web design class project and I was so happy with the way it turned out, I decided to keep it on the web for all to see. As you go thru my website, most of my pictures will show a small hand when the mouse cursor is moved onto them. You can then click the picture to make it bigger and click the internet back button to go back to the website. DISCLAIMER
