Organization DescriptionRural Development Institute (RDI) is the rural out reach of the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (HIHT), a multifaceted hospital complex complete with a medical college, nursing college, MRI and other modern facilities, 25 km from Dehra Doon. The primary purpose of RDI is to serve the people of the Garhwal region using a 3-Dimensional approach of literacy, health, and income-generation. Currently RDI is serving 650 villages, totaling a population of over 3 lakh, spread across the four districts of Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, and Uttarkashi.[Organization Details] Project DescriptionRural Development Institute (RDI) is working as a catalyst for sustainable development in the hilly district of Garhwal, UP, India. Literacy has been identified as a means of empowering the people to work for their own development. But the situation is a complex one. Inaccessibility, lack of resources including well-trained teachers and general apathy paint a bleak picture.RDI has drawn up a multi-dimensional program to address all these facets besetting literacy.[Project Details] Type of Education 1.School for tiny tots (Formal School) 2.Non Formal Education for children and Project Based education in primary/upper primary schools 3.Workshops for adolescents for self-awareness/self-help. 4.Functional Literacy for adults 5.Technical and Vocational Education 6.Mobile libraries in the villages.
