Our family tree is a very interesting one, in the fact that it can be assumed that anyone that has the same last name as ours are related back to the 17th century, I have been told. I have been researching the family name, and I have came upon an interesting fact-this surname is very rare, indeed. All I know about the family history is that my Great-grandfather who was named Albert Stankewitz came to this country in the 1850's time frame and settled in the mid-west area of Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma. His first wife, name unknown, was Irish and was coming to the new world on the same boat as he. He was remarried 1 more time. He had several children.
Great-Grandpa Stankewitz is thought to have fought for the Confederate forces during the Civil War, although this could be that he fought for the Union Army. If anybody has any references to the company/regiment that he fought with, it would be greatly appreciated.
My grandfather was born Martin Luther Stankewitz in 1883 at Bear Hollow (near Greenwood), Arkansas. He had brothers named Pierce and John. He also had a sister named (or nicknamed) Sissy who married into the Lowrey family. There may be other siblings that I don't know about.
There is more to be discovered about the family history, so as I uncover it, I will post it here. Hopefully I will get enough information that I can create a family history tree for all to see.
If there is anybody that knows more of the family history, I would appreciate it if they would e-mail Me with some more info so that I may post a family tree on this site.
I have provided a page for you to print out HERE, if you want to search your family roots. Just follow the directions and print as many copies as you will need. If you have any comments, suggestions, etc. feel free to e-mail us.
