Rangana Bookstore is owned and run by Mr. Andrei
Mikhailovna. He is Russian. And he spent his first 25
years in his own home country. He lives in Leningrad. The
thought of opening a small bookstore first came into his
mind when he was only 10 years old. His father used to
have a huge bookstore back then in Russia but due to bad
business, it went down. Mr. Mikhail used to help his
father with his bookstore and he used to read novels there
as well. Mr Mikhail used to love the bookstore very much
that he spent most of his time at the store. He used to
read novels and books a lot that he had to wear glasses.
In other words, he was obsessed with books that he used to
spend all his money in buying books. Then when the store
closed down, he almost passed out. The same was with his
father who had been working on the bookstore, inherited
from his ancestors, most of his life.
Eventually, Mr. Mikhail finished his studies majoring in
English Literature. Then one of his close relatives asked
him to settle down in Hong Kong where he can persist on
writing and also work as a manager on his bookstore. Mr
Mikhail had a great passion for writing short stories and
he himself has written quite a few. He agreed to come in
Hong Kong and work here. Then gradually he gained support
and was able to take control of the whole store. Till now,
Mr Mikhail is the sole owner of the bookowner and when
asked he replies firmly that he doesn��t intend to share
his bookstore in partners.
Now, the small store stands out in the middle of Hong Kong
Island, attracting determined readers to it. Though the
store is small, it has assorted range of books. It has 5
employees in total including the manager and a sweeper who
has the responsibility to keep the store clean day and
night. Since the store is located in the ground floor,
there is no need for an elevator.
