Introduction:
I bought my PlayStation.2 on July 9th, 2001 for $583.95 (Australian Dollars), with Madden NFL 2001 at $84.10 and an 8mb Memory Card for $58.60, all up it came to a healthy total of $726.65. The price I got ended up being less than the retail price of just the console at some stores (Harvey Norman still had them for $750.00), I was pretty happy with that price, after all I was getting a DVD Player, CD Player, PSone and of course the PlayStation.2, all in one! Since then I bought Gran Turismo 3: A-spec on its Australian release day from a local store. Grand Theft Auto 3 came a few months later, I bought it at Electronics Boutique a few days before its official release date and before most stores had even got their stock. Two weeks after Grand Theft Auto 3 was released in Australia, it was banned by the OFLC (Official Film and Literature Classification) because some of its content was not suitable for an MA15+ rating, apparently the publishers, Take Two Interactive did not get the game classified legally and instead just placed an MA15+ rating on it themselves, and let it hit the shelves. It will be re-released in Australia as a toned down version in the future, lucky I got my original copy early. At Christmas of 2001 I bought Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 and Jak and Daxter, they were both fairly new releases at the time.
