Introduction:
The Gran Turismo series is well known for its accurate car physics and high number of vehicles in each release, so much so that the developers themselves have dubbed it 'The Real Driving Simulator', and for a good reason too. Gran Turismo 3 is a slight exception though, with less vehicles included than the previous PSX version GT2, but the game dramatically improves upon the driving mechanics since the last game. If you have played Gran Turismo 2 you will find yourself right at home in GT3 as not a whole lot has changed, and thats a good thing, there are new courses, new cars, and of course the graphics are a huge step above any other racing game you've ever experienced. The game features well known manufacturers and sponsors from all over the world, including, BMW, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Nissan, Honda, Subaru, Toyota, Audi, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Mazda, and the list goes on, there is sure to be a car to suit your likings.
Gameplay:
After watching the glamorous CG intro you are greeted with a typical main menu, with choices of the usual options along side the 2 different sections of the game, Arcade, and Gran Turismo Mode. Arcade mode is like a typical arcade as the name suggests, you have powerful cars already at your disposal and you enter various races versus 5 other competitors to win the race and unlock more tracks and faster cars. Gran Turismo mode (or GT Mode) is where the meat of the game really resides, the aim in GT Mode is to purchase a starting car within the limits of your starting Credits (18,000 in GT3[PAL]), and then enter it into single races or championships to win more credits which you are able to spend towards upgrading your original car or even put it aside to purchase a brand spanking new car of your choice. In GT Mode you have a 'Garage' which houses your cars, there is also a 'Car Dealer' which is organised into Country-Manufacturer for easy access when browsing new cars. Other options include 'Go Race' where all the cash prizes can be won, 'Machine Test' where you can put your new car through its paces, and even a 'GT Auto' section where you can wash your car, change your oil or buy fancy new rims.
