Well before even the idea of an Eagle Squadron, Tobin, Keough, and Mamedoff were taken into 609 Squadron based at Middle Wallop in August of 1940.  Flying Spitfires, this squadron saw heavy combat during the Battle of Britain and the three soon-to-be Eagles would go into fight with them.
