Quoted from Peter Townsend's Duel of Eagles, pp. 322 -
"Leading I Gruppe, Hauptmann Kern reached Middle Wallop. The Germans believed their attack 'all but wiped out two British squadrons on the ground.' But one of them (609, Red Tobin's outfit) chased the Ju. 88s all the way to the coast. Said Red, 'They hit hangar 4, burnt three Blenheims and generally raised all kinds of hell, but nobody was hurt. So it wasn't so bad after all. It didn't pay the square heads because all eight of them were knocked down before they got home." |
