Since January 2002 I have
made ten resolutions every New Year's Day, then gone back and checked on
how well I did at the end of the year. I also have some
mini-resolutions, which aren't important enough to be actual
resolutions, but need to be looked at nevertheless.
January 2002
1) I'm not going to let anyone treat me like crap. 2) I'm not going to eat out of boredom. 3) I'm going to keep my bedroom tidy. (Yeah right, and I'm going to
become an S Club 7 fan, too. Give it a rest) 4) I'm going to finish at least one of my books by December 31st this
year. 5) I'm going to stop spending my money on chocolate and magazines.
This requires always having a book in my bag. 6) I'm going to keep up my yoga. 7) I'm going to work harder and stop wasting so much time. 8) I'm going to devote more time to my religion. 9) I'm going to get better, or at least make an improvement. I'm
going to be happier this year. 10) I'm going to brush my teeth twice a day. (This one is to make me
feel better: see? I stuck to one of them!) 11) I'm not going to make more than ten resolutions. (This is the one
I broke on January 1st, which gives the others a better chance of
lasting
longer)

Review
1) I'm not going to let anyone treat me like crap. Well,
that one failed miserably.
2) I'm not going to eat out of boredom. Went
well for a few months, lapsed towards the end of the year.
3) I'm going to keep my bedroom tidy. (Yeah right, and
I'm going to become an S Club 7 fan, too. Give it a rest)
Amazingly accurate prediction made at the time. My room is a state.
4) I'm going to finish at least one of my books by
December 31st this year. YES!!! This one I actually did!!! Go
me!!!
5) I'm going to stop spending my money on chocolate
and magazines. This requires always having a book in my bag.
Again, started out well, lapsed in later months.
6) I'm going to keep up my yoga. Weeellllll...on
and off...
7) I'm going to work harder and stop wasting so much
time. Hmmm. Not really.
8) I'm going to devote more time to my religion.
Kinda. More than last year, but not quite as much as I was aiming for.
9) I'm going to get better, or at least make an
improvement. I'm going to be happier this year. Definitely a
higher happiness ratio this year - yay!!!
10) I'm going to brush my teeth twice a day. (This one
is to make me feel better: see? I stuck to one of them!) Served
its purpose well. Well done, little resolution.
11) I'm not going to make more than ten resolutions.
(This is the one I broke on January 1st, which gives the others a better
chance of lasting longer) Again, served its purpose.
Success rating: 3/10
Resolutions
1. I'm not going to eat, or buy trashy magazines/rubbish CDs/dancing
hamsters out of boredom. (Sadly, still relevant - boredom is a big thing
for me.)
2. I'm going to get good A levels and get into uni.
3. I'm going to stop being so self-conscious all the time.
4. I'll stop procrastinating and...oh, I'll finish that one later.
5. I will keep my room tidy. I WILL do it this year, goddammit!
6. I'll go to the gym regularly.
7. I'm going to completely make over my life so it suits me better.
(See? Fun one! I'm going to enjoy that)
8. I'm going to learn something new. Completely from scratch.
9. I'm going to keep being loyal and a good friend, but I'm going to
start speaking up for myself at the same time.
10. This year is going to be fun. No argument.

Review
1. I'm not going to eat, or buy trashy
magazines/rubbish CDs/dancing hamsters out of boredom. Well, I
still ate out of boredom. But the trashy magazine/rubbish CD/dancing
hamster count was way down. So partial credit.
2. I'm going to get good A levels and get into
uni. Mission accomplished. I got ABB and my university flung its
gates wide open to me.
3. I'm going to stop being so self-conscious all
the time. Hmmm... I was slightly less self-conscious, but there's
still a lot of work to be done there.
4. I'll stop procrastinating and...oh, I'll finish
that one later. This didn't even come close to working.
5. I will keep my room tidy. Um, no. It's
worse now because I have two bedrooms, Bristol and London, and most of
the time they're both tips.
6. I'll go to the gym regularly. For three
months I did. Then I stopped.
7. I'm going to completely make over my life so it
suits me better. I've begun on this one, but "complete
makeover" is a bit of a stretch.
8. I'm going to learn something new. Completely
from scratch. Yes, I did this. I started learning Reiki and next
year I'm paying for the course so I'm officially qualified.
9. I'm going to keep being loyal and a good
friend, but I'm going to start speaking up for myself at the same time.
I spoke up a lot more and have got myself going down the right road. I
think that's as good as a victory.
10. This year is going to be fun. No argument.
More fun than last year, sure it was.
Success rating: Somewhere between 3 and 4½.
Resolutions
1. I will stop procrastinating (Third time lucky...).
2. I will pass my first year of university.
3. I will get back into my spiritual practices. They have lapsed
slightly.
4. I will learn three new things by the end of the year and continue the
things I am learning at present to a higher level.
5. I will finish at least one of the two stories that have
been driving me nuts for months if not years.
6. I will take better care of myself.
7. I will stop passing up opportunities to do things.
8. I will stop worrying about what other people think. Because who
cares?
9. I will continue my life makeover to the point that by the end of 2004
there will be a significant change.
10. I will live my life in order to be happy.

Review
1. I will stop procrastinating (Third time
lucky...). Nope. Dammit.
2. I will pass my first year of university.
Erm, oops.
3. I will get back into my spiritual
practices. They have lapsed slightly. Not
really, no. Must try harder.
4. I will learn three new things by the end of the year and
continue the things I am learning at present to a higher level.
I don't know if I've done this or not. I really must try and be more
specific.
5. I will finish at least one of the two stories that have
been driving me nuts for months if not years. YES!
Finally! Woo!
6. I will take better care of myself. Well...
kind of.
7. I will stop passing up opportunities to do things.
Nope.
8. I will stop worrying about what other people think. Because who
cares? I'm getting better at this, but it
still bugs me.
9. I will continue my life makeover to the point that by the end of 2004
there will be a significant change. Whether
my life is different I don't know, but I certainly am. We'll call that a
pass.
10. I will live my life in order to be happy.
I'm happy. Go me!
Success rating: 3/10 and some maybes.
Resolutions
1. I will stop wasting money.
2. I will pass my first year of university (it's very embarrassing
to have to make this one twice).
3. I will learn to draw, or paint, or something along those lines.
4. I will devote more time to my religion and less time to my
Simpsons box sets.
5. I will not put on the weight I lost last year.
6. I will develop a sense of adventure.
7. I will stop procrastinating (every year I make this one! Every
bloody year!).
8. I will follow through with my good ideas, instead of making
complicated lists about them and then ignoring them.
9. I will finish the unfinished story that has been driving me nuts
for about five years.
10. I will reach a greater understanding of what will make me happy
and go for it.
