PWFFL 2004 Awards Show - Part 3

[03.12.05] Kalamazoo, MI - Welcome back to the 2004 Awards banquet. During the break, Timbuktu owner Jock and his wife, former owner of the Benton Harbor Hoodlems, crashed the party. They were all rode pretty heavy for trying to be "fashionably-late". Ms. Garner took the time during the break to get to know Jabin a little bit better, sitting on his lap while feeding him some cheesecake. Willa stared at her the entire time with a look of disgust on her face. She quietly waived the waitress down and whispered something into her ear.

Back to the Awards, Garner rises from her seat to start with the PWFFL player awards.

PWFFL 2004 MVP

This Award goes to the player that was the most valuable player in the league this year and scored the most points. No quarterback had been nominated for this award since Kurt Warner won the honor in 1999. This year for the first time ever, three quarterbacks are nominated for this award. Daunte Culpepper (Kal), Peyton Manning (RI), and Donovan McNabb (Roc). All three of these great players lead their teams to the playoffs, but only one could be named PWFFL MVP.

Winner: Peyton Manning - Quarterback, Rhode Is. Ridicule

(Libzie, of the Ridicule) Peyton has been my main signal caller for all of our existence and its nice for him to finally be recognized as the most valuable player in the league. On behalf of Mr. Manning, I graciously accept this award.

Rookie of the Year

Rookie of the year includes not only NFL rookies, but also anyone that has never played a game in PWFFL. The nominees are: Antonio Gates (TE-Det), Willis McGahee (RB-Det), and Roy Williams (WR-GB)

Winner: Antonio Gates - Tight End, Detroit Drive

Gates exploded this year at the tight end position after being drafted in the 13th round by the Drive. He broke the long-standing record for points scored in a single season by a tight end, held by Tony Gonzalez.

Diamond Award

The Diamond Award is given to the player that had his breakout year making him the "difference-maker" on his team. The Diamond Award winner is the player that had the biggest jump in production from any previous year in PWFFL. The Nominees are: Daunte Culpepper (QB-Min), Javon Walker (WR-Wis), and Drew Bennett (WR-Tim)

Winner: Drew Bennett - Wide Receiver, Timbuktu Buccaneers

Drew Bennett was consistently an average player for most of the season, but his last two games when he scored 68 fantasy points helped him break away from the rest of the pack. This season was probably the year he needed to establish himself a name in the league and a permanent job on a PWFFL roster.

Lemon Award

The Lemon Award goes to the player that showed such promise as to make a team use a high draft pick on them, only to be unable to perform for them. Although the Benton Harbor Hoodlems had a lot of questionable picks later on in the draft, not all off the nominees came from her franchise. The Nominees are: Tory Hambrick (RB-BH) #10, Quentin Griffen (RB-NM) #7, and Kellen Winslow II (TE-GB) #5.

Winner: Troy Hambrick - Running Back, Benton Harbor Hoodlems

Hambrick started off to be the beginning of the end for former owner of the Hoodlems, Kim. He managed to score in a couple games during the season, before being lost due to injury. While the other two nominees were lost due to injury, (Garner: Griffen lost out especially to my man Droughns) there was no reason for Hambrick to be drafted that high to begin with.

Golden Comb Award

The Golden Comb Award is for the best value pick in the draft. This player was picked up late in the draft and performed better than expected for their team. This is the first year that kickers and defenses are no longer eligible to be nominated for this award. The Nominees are: Antonio Gates (TE-Det) #35, Drew Bennett (WR-Tim) #27, and Ben Roethlisberger (QB-GB), #23

Winner: Antonio Gates - Tight End, Detroit Drive

(Bob walks up to the podium) Thanks darling, I am sure glad that I decided to drop in for this occasion. I've already racked up two awards, and boy (looking at Garner) does the rack look good. I mean, thank you everyone, I look forward to this evening progressing beautifully (Winks at Garner)

We have to take a commercial break, but when we return Ms. Garner will give out even more awards, including team/owner honors.
