Co. "I" & "F"(?)

King Prince Allen (click on pic for the full size) was born in Munson (Fowler Mills), Ohio on Nov. 9, 1841. His parents were Ira and Rebecca (Calkins) Allen.

He was a wagon maker/blacksmith in the Homer Mich. area.

At the age of 19 he enlisted in the Detroit Scott Guards in December of 1861 {I have on record that he enlisted on 22nd of April 1861 in Kalamazoo Mich. Company I}. the Detroit Scott Guards became 2nd Michigan Infantry, Company A

In Detroit he enlisted {was mustered into Federal Service on May 21st 1861} in Company I 2nd Michigan Volunteer Infantry. Eventually he became a corporal.

While the re-enlisting soldiers went on leave. King was temporarely transfered to Company I of the 17th Michigan Infantry. He returned to the Second on April 9th 1864.

He was Discharged on the 25th of May 1864 in Detroit Mich. at the end of his 3 year term.

He appeared on the muster roll for the periods. This is the information provided by the archives concerning him. It is dated May 17th 1892. with the following notes in the margin.

Note: "In Knoxville there are no records of his account in the occupancy. He has drawn clothing to the value of 4.05$. It is believed he had a (words unreadable seems like description sent) with him. Stoped for transportation from Detroit to Albion Mich $3.80. Discharged term of service having expired"

June 3rd 186517th Mich. Inf.Delany House D.C."Transferred to 2 Mich. Inf. in obedience to General Order from War Department."
July 28th 18652nd Mich. Inf.Delany House D.C. "Transferred from 17 Mich. Inf. April 9/64 (cannot read sentence) 9 A.C. Discharged by reason of expiration of term of service May 25/64 at Detroit Mich. by order of Gen. Burnside."

He married Susan Gerow on Oct. 20, 1864.

In 1886 he moved to North Dakota.

In 1889 he moved to Pullman, Whitman County, Washington , where he continued to work as a Blacksmith and (later) postmaster.

In 1910 he was the postmaster in Pullman.

After the war he became a member of Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Whitman post # 53.

He died, in Pullman, Whitman Co, WA., on May 13th 1917 in Colfax, Wa. following his wife Susan which had died on Aug. 17 1916. He is buried in Pullman Cemetery in the State of Washington.

King P. Allen and his wife, Susan, of their union had a Daughter Dora Victorine.

Dora Victorine married a man named John Crocker Taylor. Their son John Cecil was my grandfather. His daughter Dora Victorine (Taylor) Hubble, named after her Granny, is my Mother. I am Becky (Hubble) Peterson.

This is a short bio, and really all I know for now. I will make copies of the letters that I have and a picture of him as an elderly gentleman, standing proud with his GAR badge on and holding a small American flag. I will mail these to you. Thanks for your help,....sincerely, Becky Peterson

It seems he was wrongly listed as Kirk P. Allen in the 17 infantry. The Document where he signed his name was a copy of a letter that was sent with the other info.
