The
Regency of Karo with is capital Kabanjahe covers an area
of 2,127.25 km² and the temperature ranges from 16°C-27°C
and has elevations from 700m to 400m above sea level. The population is
261,482. The people are spread out in 13 sub regencies and 258 towns
and villages. It is bordered bye the Regency of Langkat in the North, Deli
Serdang in the South, Dairi in the East and Aceh in the West. It is one of
the primary tourist destinations in Indonesia, and Berastagi, 66
km from Medan, is at the centre of Tourism business.

The Lovely Town is known for
it's plantations and various kind of flowers and
vegetables.Berastagi is pictureque hill town in the Karo
Highlands,only 70 Km from Medan on the backroad to
Danau Toba ( Toba Lake . At the altitude of 1300 metres,
the climate is deliciously cool after heat of Medan.( The
capital city of North Sumatra ).The setting is dominate by
two volcanoes : Gunung Sinabung to the West and
Smoking Gunung Sibayak to the North.
Most
people use Berastagi as base for trekking and other
adventure activities. Architecture buffs can enjoy trips
to nearby traditional villages.
ORIENTATION
& INFORMATION
Berastagi is essentially a one street town spread along
Jalan Veteran. The Tourist office, by the memorial in the
centre of Town, is friendly and well set up, but the best
source of Travellers' information is the notice boards at
The Wisma Sibayak.
You
can change US$.Dollars, cash and Travellers' Cheques,at
Bank Rakyat Indonesia at the bottom end of Jalan Veteran.
