Ancham Utsavam 2-3-2000

SamoohaPara is a comparatively novel idea. Earlier one of the regular activity of of an ulsavam day was the parakkezhunnallippu when thevar goes around the land meeting his devotees ,accepting para from them. This was , a day long activity, when once in an year Lord Puliyannoorappan visits the peoples' homes. Eventually as this caused an ever increasing strain on the whole schedule of the ulsavam and also of Ulsavabali. For about eight years this regular activity of Puliyannorappan going out for parakkezhunnallippu has been stopped and the devotees have been provided with an opportunity to offer para(paravekkal) throughout the day when the nada is open. Fifth day is an exception and on this day Puliyannoorappan goes out to accept Samoohappara held at Mutholy Junction and Ashramam Junction where hundreds of devotees flock to offer Puliyannoorappan the yearly harvest in the form of Nirapara. Para is symbolic, as every Malayalee knows, of prosperity, peace and joy. By Puliyannorappan's grace, every year the number of devotees who offer this is on the increase.

In the evening there was an Aksharaslokasadassu and Kavyakeli by the members and students of Kairaly Aksharasloka Rangam, Edanadu. The students of this AksharaSlokarangam, many of who are university and inter university prize winners, have performed this literary and poetic performance for the past years.

This year also the Samoohappara held was held at Mutholy junction and Ashramam Kavala. The illuminations and lighting decorated the evening. The whole way was decorated with kuruthola and 'manchirathus'. Resounding fireworks added colour to the ezhunnallippu. Specially, this year, for the second consecutive year Samoohappara had been scheduled for the fifth day.

There was also 'karakattom', a colourful dance that owes its origin to TamilNadu, and earlier in the evening there was bhajana by Puliyannoor Brothers at Mutholy Junction.
