May 29, 2005: That was the strangest glitch I've ever seen

As some of you may have already noticed, the fifth part of the Dungeons and Dragons story is up on the site already, and I have to say that it's one of my favourite sections. Of course, I have said that about each subsequent section, so you'll have to make a judgment call on that one. Anyway, there was a very strange glitch that occurred when I pasted the story into this website. Take a look and you'll understand. I'm going to try to fix it soon, and it's not as if the story's completely unreadable, but it can be a little bit distracting. Check it out if you're interested!

Only eight days left until Amber comes to visit. We've been apart for a month now so you can imagine I'm getting pretty excited about her coming here, especially since she hasn't seen my new place yet. She'll be staying from Monday night to Friday morning, so I don't think I'll have much of a chance to update the site. I think you'll forgive me, considering that I hadn't updated the site for about five months beforehand.

The photo gallery has now been deleted. The links are still up on most of the pages, but they are no longer functional. I went from using about sixty-five percent of my account limit to less than ten percent by deleting those pictures, which gives me a lot more freedom to have other things on the site. I don't know what I'll be doing with all of the extra space, but I'm looking forward to it!

May 26, 2005: Of actual updates

That's right, today I will actually be doing some updating to the site. As you may have noticed, the link to the photo gallery is no longer up on the main page. For the moment, it is still accessible from any other page, but hopefully by the end of the day that will no longer be the case. I'll be creating a new navigation bar this weekend as well so that it doesn't seem so start without the word "photos" up. And of course, I will also be deleting the photos themselves. I have all of them in hard copy in my room anyway.

In the way of additions, not removals, to the site, I have a major one in progress. Perhaps some of you remember my Dungeons and Dragons story? Well, the fifth part is now underway. It's about half done, and it's shaping up well. I should have it completed in a few days, and then I'll just need a day or two to edit it and add in a few more jokes here and there, and then I'll put it up on the site. I'm having a problem with a title for it, because the one that I thought of would betray the greatest joke in that section, but I'm sure that I'll come up with something.

I'm also going to try to write a musing tonight or tomorrow, as I need something to keep my mind off missing Amber. Only eleven days until she comes to visit!

May 19, 2005: Of Star Wars and girlfriends

As has been complained to me numerous times in the last few weeks, this website has not been updated in a very long time. I've been waiting until school is done to do so, and now it is, so I'm going to be doing updating post haste, especially in the musings and writing sections.

I've been thinking lately about the structure of the site, and decided on a major change: I'm going to be removing the photos section. It was a major focus of this site before, but now most people go to my site to read what I've written, not to see my favourite memories made immortal. I'll be removing the section soon, perhaps tomorrow, perhaps in a few days, but definitely within a week.

I went with Jamie, Mindy, Matt, Caroline and Becky to see Star Wars III today. My musing about it will contain spoilers, but for now all that I can say is that you should see it immediately. Go and steal the video reel from your friendly neighbourhood movie theatre if you have to, but see it at all costs. It moved me to tears more than once, and made me realise some very important things, which, again, the musing will explain. The movie is really what inspired me to start work on the website this soon.

As to what Star Wars has to do with my girlfriend, it's this simple fact: I was thinking about her the entire time I was watching the movie, because she wasn't there with me. She makes all things complete for me, and so I won't have really seen the film until I see it with her, when she comes to visit me.

And there's another connection between her and the Star Wars universe: as I watched the film, I felt her presence. Is it the Force?

December 13, 2004: This could take some explaining

As the title of this update implies, there has been no small amount of changes in my life in the last week and a half. I will try to briefly explain some of it.

First of all, I am now in exam period, which means that I'm back in Lindsay. I have a musing ready to upload to the site, and will probably have another few before I come back for Christmas for good. But as all of the writing is on my laptop and I'm using the desktop computer right now, and I have no easy to way to transfer data between the two, you'll have to wait until Wednesday or Thursday to see what I have written. I think you'll enjoy it.

Now comes my big piece of news. I know what I have said in months past with regards to the entire female gender: cynicism and sarcasm abounded. I no longer have a resigned acceptance of myself as being single. In fact, I am not single.

Now, I understand that's rather sudden, and completely unexpected, especially from me. I very nearly swore an oath to push away girls, no matter what the personal cost to myself. My only response is that I was wrong. God has been speaking to me very powerfully over the last few months, and he showed me what to pray. I prayed for him to provide someone for me to be with, and he delivered, far more quickly and powerfully than I expected, in the person of Amber.

I don't have the words to explain it all to you right now, but this girl is amazing. Most importantly, she loves Jesus as much as I do. We have lots in common, but not so much that it's scary. Last night we talked on the phone for nearly two hours and hadn't even begun to reach the limits of conversation. I miss her like crazy.

Anyway, I'll shut up about that before I start waxing eloquent and make you sick. I'll try to update the site as soon as I can. Now, I must go and finish reading an article for Greek Literature, and then write a paper. I know, I should be studying for exams. Studying is for the weak!

December 3, 2004: Two birthday parties today

My sincerest apologies for the lack of updates lately, but November is an absolutely insane month in first year university. Classes end in six days for me, and then I have three exams stretched out among two weeks before Christmas. I'm going back to Lindsay to visit friends for a week or so in between, which I am looking forward to.

But I forget myself. You probably don't care where I'm going, so here are the updates. There isn't a whole lot of anything. Some of my essays you would be impressed with, but I'm not prepared to put them on the Internet just yet. I have written a few more entries in my musings journal, and they're much more happy and lighthearted than most, so I think you'll enjoy them. Check them out!

As for the title, today is my sister's birthday party. Happy Birthday Katie! It's a double party because I would not tell my Bible study group when my birthday was, except that it was in December. They still don't know when it is, but since today is our last meeting, they're doing a joint Christmas and Robbie's birthday party. I am very unhappy about this, and that is not a joke. Fortunately last night I got to hang out with my friend Caroline, and we ended up chatting until almost four in the morning. That will more than make up for the horrible party today.

November 4, 2004: Your patience bears fruit

Well, as the title says, I have finally updated the site, and believe me, it's a lot, even though I have about as much to update at a later time as well! I'm using my aunt's internet access to update the site so it might be a while before I can get back into the swing of things, especially with all my school and extra-curricular work, but here it is!

First, and most importantly, is the latest story I finished. It's the sequel to The Frozen Tear and The Human Cancer and I've called it A Fire Untended. It's my favourite of the three by far. Check it out! Also, I've updated my musings journal with five new ones, which should give you a lot to think about. They're all over a month old, but that is owing to my settling into life at Trent.

That's all there is for now. My webcomic site will be up soon, which has constituted a lot of work on my part, and also I have some other works almost finished. Keep visiting here, and you will be well rewarded!

One last note: if you are the person who wrote that absolutely wonderful guestbook entry starting with "I always looked up to you, Robbie" then please let me know. I want to talk to you.

September 21, 2004: Tomorrow is Frodo's birthday

I've been busy with party preparations, so I haven't been able to work on the site a whole lot lately. That's what I'd be saying if I were lying to you. Actually, I love it here at school and I've been a bit busy to do much with my horrible Internet connection, much less update the site. I do now have a connection that works some of the time, so bear with me. Let me assure you that I have a mother lode of things to add to the site once I can. Musings, a story in the works, Lord of the Pants, you name it, I've worked on it. Also the new webcomic site will be up post haste.

Again, apologies. I'll get this working as soon as I possibly can!

August 30, 2004: I have a secret to keep

For certain reasons, I cannot reveal why my internet access on my laptop is nonexistent. I will be getting a connection to it soon, and it is then that you will find out what my secret is. Since all of my writing is now done on paper or on my portable computer, I cannot very easily update the site until my connection is made. So sit tight, and by the tenth of September at the very, very latest there will be a rather huge update.

Oh, and I emptied the guestbook and added in new questions.

August 25, 2004: Murphy's Law is the bane of my existence

The title should explain it all. My laptop's internet, for some reason, is incredibly slow, and I have no idea why. It was working really well for the first thirty seconds or so and then began transferring at a rate that would make me take about thirty years to download a movie. Fortunately I won't have to use this internet connection for much longer, but that's a story for another day.

Since I know that a few people are reading my musings with great interest, I decided to retype the musing I finished almost a week ago, as it was written on my computer. Go to the musings section to read it. I've started work on another one, which should be quite good, and I wrote an entire one last night as well, but for certain reasons it won't be posted here. There are some things which need to be saved in the hope of something better.

University begins in less than two weeks, and I'm amazingly excited. I now have a tentative schedule made, which is dependent on whether I get into the seminar times that I need, and it's the most beautiful timetable I have ever seen. Imagine having Fridays off every day for eight months, and only having to go to class on Mondays once a month. Beautiful, ne?

As for other updates, there is only one. You can see it right below you, the news archives, which just makes loading time for the main page much faster, not to mention giving me less of a headache when I update. I am, however, going to add in another once my laptop's internet is working properly. It will be in the writing section and is called Are You Homesick? I preached it at my young adults group last Sunday. It's a challenging piece, for reader and writer, but I did not write it to simply hide it away in my drawer. It will be on the site as soon as possible, but I will not type out over three thousand words a second time without reason. You understand.

August 18, 2004: Technical difficulties

Just a short note. I got my laptop a couple of days ago and I've been a bit busy updating it with all my music and such. It's also great for writing, but doesn't have an Internet connection yet. Until I set it up, which I might do today, there won't be much updating going on on the site. I will have at least two musings to update by the time I'm connected, so sit tyght.

August 14, 2004: I even sound busy

Life's pretty crazy around here lately. My grandfather's been staying with us for the last week, and I ordered my laptop, which I'll be getting on Monday. I have a pool party to go to tomorrow, a university career to start in a few weeks, and an immensely important message to preach in just over a week. Plus I'm leaving an organization that I've been involved with for over five years and that's going to require a good deal of explanation. All of that even makes me sound like a have a life. Go figure.

In the midst of it, I've still managed to do a lot of reading, thinking and writing. I finished the book I was reading, A Telling of Stars, which I highly recommend, and now I have a lot of things to write about concerning that, now that the issues in the novel are as resolved as they're going to get. Check the musings section for more on that! I'll be working on other projects more soon as well, once my computer arrives. Be prepared for a whole ton of new things to read!

August 10, 2004: Good preparation for university

The title works on at least two levels. The first of these is that tomorrow I'm leaving for my orientation at Trent, and I'll be there for most of the day. I've been told what college I'm going to be affiliated with, and my tuition will be paid within a week, so everything is coming together nicely. I'm really excited about the changes coming in my life, and that familiar pang of uncertainty is on my heart, but I know that God has called me here and that he will affirm it many, many times.

The other reason is that I'll be doing a lot of writing in school and I've been practising for that via my musings lately. I've written one every day for the last while, except for Sunday. I'd recommend you check them out, because chances are you'll find a new one more often than not. I'll be doing more work on the comic, and stories, as time progresses, but before I start writing a new story, I need to finish the one I'm reading.

August 5, 2004: I'm actually updating!

I've been doing a lot of work on the site and such lately. I've written another two musings, as you may have noticed, one from last night and one I just wrote now. Take a look at them if you like.

And now, it's time to unveil a project I've been both sitting and working on for some time. Drum roll please! I hope you liked the ongoing Dungeons and Dragons story because this is not only in the same vein, it's the same story! I'm making a webcomic based on it! It's going to follow the same plot as the story, for the most part, but it's going to add its own threads, just as I added ones in the story that didn't happen in the actual game. Make sure you let me know what you think, because I have a lot of plans for it and need to know what my audience feels!

Be warned, though: in order to really understand it, you're going to have to be an uber-geek like me.

August 3, 2004: Invisible updates

That's right, there have been updates, but unless you're a power user you probably haven't found them. Remember what I said about updating the journals page about every millenium or so? Well, I lied. I've updated it three times in the last five days, and I expect to continue to add entries every other day at the very least. I've found it gives me a sense of peace to put my thoughts out in writing like that. Although it is giving me much sleep deprivation, I'm glad nonetheless.

Other things I've lied about include the work on the latest "Kevin" story, which I've done about a paragraph more work on, and the Dungeons and Dragons story which I've done absolutely no work on whatsoever. But I will be getting my laptop within two weeks, and then all of that will change. I write much faster at a computer, but I write more and better in my room, so being able to do that should increase my writing quantity, and I hope quality, tenfold.

I'm also working on a quotes section, which will be largely filled with words of wisdom or hilarity from all the great games I've played over the years. However, I might have to quote some friends as well, or even myself, because goodness knows I've said some pretty stupid things. "How would I know if you've been online? You haven't been... oh."

The top secret thing I've been working on, which isn't so top secret if you talk to me at all online, is coming along nicely. The first installment should be ready in a few days.

July 17, 2004: My computer hates me, but I'm still alive

Well, I actually was updating the news yesterday, but then my computer decided to say that my modem wasn't plugged in (it was). So now I've finally worked up the patience to try writing an update again.

I haven't done a whole lot of updating lately, as you've probably noticed, but there are a few major projects in the works now. One is the next "Kevin" story, which is my major focus at the moment. It should be done in a week. The second is completing The Lord of the Pants: The Two Trousers which shouldn't take long. I just need to sit down and do it. The third is working more on the Dungeons and Dragons story but I'm not focusing on that much right now. And the last one is a major new piece which I'm keeping completely secret. All that I will say is that it's largely connected to another one of my stories, and that it doesn't completely involve text. That's all that I'm going to say.

Oh, and in case you didn't notice over the last month, the fourth part of the Dungeons and Dragons story is up on the site, and has been for a very long time.

June 10, 2004: Gone for the weekend

My apologies about not updating the site in the last week. I've been rather busy, what with my acceptance to Trent University, and finishing up my tutoring, and I've been working on the Dungeons and Dragons story as well. It is about ten minutes of editing from complete, but I'm going to unveil it in Peterborough, this weekend, before I put it up here. It's not my favourite part of the story, that's Part Three, but it's pretty good. I manage to make a big joke about just about every character.

I'll be in Peterborough from about 4:00 PM tomorrow until about the same time on Sunday. Amy's coming too, this should be great fun. There is a PYPS meeting that I was semi-requested to attend, but I've been planning this weekend for a while now and three hours of driving to a meeting, and then instantly driving back afterwards doesn't seem to compare with playing Illusion of Gaia on my SNES with Ty. Yes, I am a nerd. At any rate, we're doing a sleepover on Saturday night at the church as well, so this should be great fun. I hope I don't scare too many people.

June 4, 2004: The Two Trousers and an apology

That's right, The Lord of the Pants: The Two Trousers is nowhere near completed! But I am at a quarter of the way through, so I thought I'd put my progress to date up on the site for your enjoyment. Like I said, omer gets all the best lines. Just go and see.

And also for a more serious bit. I want to apologize to four people that I've an absolute ogre to. Rachel, Sarah, Jay, and Connie, I am sorry. I've been playing games with you and I didn't even realise it. I did what you needed me to do for you and then blamed you for it afterwards, and I have no excuse. I can't even call myself your friend for now, and for that I am sorry. Even if you'd take me back with open arms, I can't run into them. I can't allow myself to risk doing that to you again. I hope you understand.

May 31, 2004: No updates; makes for a nice change

By the time you figure out what's wrong with that, it won't matter anymore! So this weekend was pretty busy. I didn't really do a whole lot until Saturday night, when Evan from PYPS showed up at my door at 11:00 PM and I stayed up chatting until 2:00 AM with Rob Ellis, who drove him here. Then I woke up after four hours and went to three successive church services, having to leave halfway through the first two, as it was Amy Jellicoe's baptism at St. Andrew's but I didn't want to miss part of Bethel's service either, and I didn't want to stay at the Presbyterian church any longer than was absolutely necessary. But I did stay for all of Calvary's service. Then I had to prepare for preaching that night, which went over splendidly. It also gave me an excuse not to socialize with everyone. What can I say? I'm an introvert at heart.

Anyway, now I've been getting some ideas for Kevin's latest "adventures" so I might start on them tonight. I've also been working a lot on The Lord of the Pants: The Two Trousers and might have that up on the site in a few days. All I will say for now is that omer gets all the best lines. You have no idea.

May 29, 2004: I'm going to get arthritis prematurely

Oh God, do my fingers hurt or what? If you say "what" then I shall forever ban you from the site. If I had that power. One day, my precious. Yes, one day. In the meantime, I'm finally done updating the site into its new layout! I've slaved over the site for a minimum of eight hours over the last day and a half, and now the entire thing is completely updated into the new format. I also changed the guestbook questions and took out the Friends section, as I haven't updated it in nearly a year and I'm beginning to think of new ways I can encourage my friends through writing. If you want a copy of one, just email me and I'll see what I can do.

Now that all of that is done, I can get back to updating new things for the site. Later on today, I hope, you can expect to see a photo gallery for PYPS Spring Fellowship from last weekend. But I still have another full roll of camera to scan before that, and I also have a bit of writing to do for introductions to some sections of the site. Still, the gallery will be up tomorrow afternoon at the latest. I hope you enjoy the new format for the site!

Update: I finished the Spring Fellowship photo gallery so you can check it out!

May 28, 2004: New site design official

Yes, that's right. What you see here is now my new official site design. However, it isn't even close to fully implemented yet. Right now the only pages that have proper links and the new design are the main page, the pants index, and Fellowship of the Pants. So if you find broken links, don't be suprised. I would just close off the pages under construction, but what fun would that be?

Speaking of the new design, what do you think of it? Drop me a line and let me know! The banner is c/o Alex Luyckx, who did both an amazing and fast job on it. You'll see newer versions of it later on, but for now it's wonderful, isn't it?

Oh, and for the technically inept, you can return to the home page (that's here) from anywhere in the site, once it's fully implemented, by clicking on the banner! See? I didn't just put it there because it's pretty. Although it is, and it's a way for me to pretend that I have some actual graphical talent. Speaking of graphical talent, I made the navigation bar myself, and I'd never used Photoshop before. So there.

May 27, 2004: Site changes and the PYPS theme song

I suppose that there are a lot of things to say in this update, aren't there? First of all you will probably notice that the site has a much different look than you're used to. It's still in progress but when it's finished the site should have a much more professional and elegant look to it. I thought that since I am getting a bit older and my writing has had more mature themes, I would change the site to reflect that. It won't look so dry once I have a banner at the top of the site, and once I have navigation buttons instead of plain text links. Let me know what you think of the new site design!

PYPS was great! The speaker was amazing; that was the first time I've actually been challenged at PYPS in at least a year. Also we had nearly sixty people show up, so there were a fair number of people there. The food was good, the fellowship was incredible, and it seemed to me that there was a real atmosphere of worship there, which was of course exactly what I was aiming for. There are far too many jokes to even begin to list them here, but let it suffice to say that I can't decide which was the best time: my "Traffic Lights" song gag, unexplained signs from God during my devotion, or Itoro's song about me. It was one of the best retreats I've been to.

I actually will be doing some serious writing in the next few weeks. I plan on doing a review of Spring Fellowship, complete with photos, and that should be up early next week. Before that there will be a photo gallery of the weekend as well. Also, I'm in the process of planning out the next chapter of Kevin's story from my most recent stories. Once I do you can expect a lengthy piece on that.

It's rather ironic that I'm talking about having more mature writing, because you'll notice at the top of this page a new link: to the Pants-lated! section. I'll leave you to sate your curiosity yourself. I highly recommend checking it out, but I should warn you that it's still in progress.

It's about time for me to scamper off. I have a lot of things to do today!
